Programs and results
What we aim to solve
The Council on Aging strives to provide the best programs and services to assist older adults in maintaining quality of life and independence at home to promote optimal physical and mental health. By providing in-home aide and Meals on Wheels, we allow older adults to avoid early institutionalization. Our senior centers offer socialization and wellness/fitness opportunities so seniors may avoid isolation, loneliness and physical deterioration.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
In-home Aide Personal Care
We help older adults maintain their independence by providing nursing assistants to assist with personal care, perform in-home tasks and meal preparation.
Meals on Wheels
Volunteers provide a brief visit and a hot meal for home-bound older adults. Frozen meals are available for people who do not live on a regular meal route.
Congregate Meals
A nutritious, noontime meal and community fellowship is provided daily, Monday through Friday, at both Senior Centers.
Senior Center Activities
A variety of programs and activities are offered, such as health screenings, exercise, games, education, music and art.
Exercise Program
Establish a regular exercise routine with low-impact aerobics, Yoga, and chair aerobics classes. Senior Centers house equipment including weight stations, Nu-Step, treadmills, and stationery bicycles. Membership is available to the general public aged 55 and older.
Health Education and Disease Suport
Nutrition education, health screenings, healthy lifestyles, arthritis exercise, falls prevention and diabetes support are some examples of the education and disease support programs offered at the Centers.
Assistive Equipment Loan Program
We offer assistive devices, such as canes, walkers, wheelchairs, shower transfer benches and hospital beds. Donated devices are accepted.
Minor Home Repair
Volunteers install shower grab bars and other assistive devices and make minor home repairs.
Caregiver Support
We provide respite and support for 24-hour, family caregivers. Licensed aides or extensively trained volunteers are available. We are also a certified Music & Memory® organization to help persons with dementia.
