What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Fix-It Program
We offer our local community members an affordable way to have their pets "Fixed" (spayed/neutered). Anyone in Person County who is on Medicaid, low income, or unemployed may apply for assistance from our group. If they are accepted, we will use our partner Veterinarian Hospital to have their pets spayed or neutered at little or no cost to the client.
This not only helps our clients, but offers great rewards for the animals, as well as, helping to control the over population of dogs and cats in our county.
Pet Pantry Program
This past year, due to Covid-19 and the hardships it caused for many of our families, we started a Pet Pantry for our local community. The program is designed to assist anyone living in Person County to apply for pet food assistance. When setting up this program, we appealed to the community and our partner stores for pet food donations. When residents are accepted, we set up a time when we can get the food supplies to them. The community has been wonderful with their donations and we have been told that without this program many families would have had to surrender or abandon their pets. Since setting up this program we have been able to purchase a trailer so that we may store and deliver the supplies easily. Our goal is to continue this program throughout the years to come and to have our food supplies available to anyone who needs assistance for their pets.
Meet & Greets
Throughout the year we hold monthly Meet & Greets, either somewhere in our town, or at our partner pet store, to show off our adoptable dogs and cats in the hope that they will find their "furever" home. The events are usually 3 hours long and include hands-on time for prospective adopters to get to know the animals.
We also have items for sale and donation boxes available for anyone who wishes to show their support of our efforts. Our local pet store manager works closely with us to coordinate our events and advertises the event in store, as well as, provide special sale items and discounts throughout his store. He has been most generous in making food and supply donations as well.
MicroChip & Nail Trimming Clinic
One of our newer programs this year is our free microchip clinic and $10 nail trimming event. Our first event was a huge success with over 40 canine clients being chipped. Our local mobile veterinarian and a tech assistant from our partnering animal hospital worked to administer the microchips, while our volunteers assisted with the forms and processing.
We also held a nail trimming clinic in conjunction with this event. One of our volunteers is a groomer and volunteered her time to provide canines with nail trims at a nominal fee of $10 per pet. Our volunteers assisted her as she needed.
The community was very grateful for the opportunity to have this service available to them and it allowed us to create a new partnership with the microchip company.
4 The PAWS Event
This year we held our 2nd Annual 4 The PAWS & Motorcycle Ride in uptown Roxboro. We have teamed up with a local motorcycle club that donates their time and money to our cause, for which we are very grateful. The cyclists offer other cyclists to do a ride with them through the back country roads of our rural town. The ride lasts about an hour and culminates uptown where our organization has set up tents and booths for our all day event. We bring our furry friends who are available for adoption for meet & greets, we sell various items and have a raffle table, where local businesses have donated items for the raffle. We also invite vendors and food trucks to join in the fun, as well as, local talent who perform throughout the day. We hold a best costume contest for anyone who wants to dress up their pet, we hold a 2mile walk for the pets and their people and it is a fun-filled day for everyone. The local schools provide volunteers who have an interest in the work we do and we hope that they will join our group some day.
