What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

We focus on providing a recreational and therapeutic activity for individuals with special needs. We bridge the learning gap for individuals with different learning levels by utilizing the horse as a motivator. We use the movement of the horse to help build muscle and core strength or our riders.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

therapeutic riding program

Horsepower serves children and adults with a variety of mental, physical, and emotional disabilities. Instructors design and monitor lesson plans for each student to address his or her physical, emotional, and social needs while learning the skills of horseback riding. Individual and class goals encourage each rider to be the best he or she can be, on and off the horse.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Our goal is to provide equine assisted activities to 100 to 130 individuals each week. Our riders all have individual lesson plans that work on personalized goals from increased core strength to speech and language and overcoming anxiety. We strive to have over 85% success on goal outcomes. We increase the quality of life for our riders with special needs. We utilize volunteers of all ages, all volunteers who participate leave feeling a sense of accomplishment by helping others.

All of our instructors are certified by the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship. Each rider/caregiver is interviewed for goals and objectives. After goals are set each instructor writes and directs lessons toward their objective. After each 6 week session goals are evaluated and changed accordingly. We utilize volunteers to fill all of our class needs. These volunteers are all invested in outcomes of each riders objectives.

Since 1995 we have provided therapeutic riding and equine assisted activities for individuals with special needs. We built a facility specific to our therapeutic needs. Our program is a Professional Association for Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH) Premier Center. All of our Instructors are PATH certified. We utilizes 300 volunteers in our program.

Since 1995 we have increased the quality of life for hundreds of individuals with special needs. In 2015 we started a campaign and raised over 1.4 million dollars to build a new facility. We moved into our new home in December of 2018. In June of 2019 we completed our new facility and we are now working on our strategic plan and utilizing our staff, horses and facilities to serve our community. We anticipate a 20% growth of services by June of 2022
