Residential Care and Developmental Services

The Children’s Attention Home provides children with residential care and developmental services, ensuring each child receives the support they desperately need.

Children are initially provided with healthy meals, appropriate clothing, and a safe place to sleep. Within 14 days of entering care, all children are seen by a doctor, an optometrist, a dentist, and a mental health professional. Once evaluations are complete, each child has an individualized comprehensive care plan prepared for them. The plan details the child’s physical, mental, social, educational, and developmental needs ensuring the child receives appropriate care.

Beyond meeting basic needs, the Home focuses on ensuring access to educational support, developmental opportunities, independent living instruction, and extracurricular activities that meet their personal interests. This ensures these children are provided with opportunities to overcome their circumstances and develop into successful community members.

Population(s) Served
Children and youth
At-risk youth

The Crossroads program provides homeless youth with a new beginning, offering a stable environment to earn an income, practice fiscal responsibility, and gain resources previously not afforded to them. These individuals are between the ages of 17-20 and are victims of circumstance, arriving at the Home through no fault of their own. For a maximum of two years, these young adults have the opportunity to live in a safe environment, with all meals and clothing provided. After being asked to leave their own home by a parent or caregiver, suffering physical abuse, dealing with the effects of a caretaker's drug or alcohol abuse, or a myriad of other reasons, each of the young adults at the Home are presented with an opportunity to take their lives into their own hands. With a caring staff behind them, the Children's Attention Home's Crossroads program starts youth on a path toward healthy independence and sustainable success.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

The mission and primary goal of the Children's Attention Home is to provide nurturing care and life-changing services for youth and families in need.

The Children's Attention Home conducts its mission through a professional, supportive staff that is trained to meet each child's individual needs. Upon placement, the staff ensures that each child's emergency and basic needs are met. Within five days, all children are seen by a physician, and within 14 days, all are seen by an optometrist, dentist, mental health professional, and has an individualized comprehensive care plan prepared for them. The care plan ensures that every child receives the necessary services to overcome their circumstances and reach their full potential. The progress of each child is evaluated on at least a monthly basis and the child's care plan is updated accordingly.

Since its establishment in 1970, the Children's Attention Home has secured a dedicated Board of Directors, a devoted multidisciplinary team, and a committed network of community service providers who work tirelessly to implement the mission of the Children's Attention Home. Through this collaborative effort, the Home successfully serves approximately 115 children each year.

When the Children's Attention Home began, it served strictly as an emergency shelter with the capacity of caring for up to nine children at a time who were victims of child abuse. Since then, the campus has grown and is now able to provide care for up to 36 children at a time. Services have also expanded to include full-service, long-term developmental care. As each year passes, the Home continues to grow and strengthen in all aspects, developing and implementing new programs to better meet the needs of the precious children entrusted to its care, ensuring better outcomes for their futures.
