Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Greater Spartanburg Ministries Inc. strives to bridge the gap of food insecurity and financial crisis to health and financial stability. In doing so, we strive to represent the Christian Church by showing love, care, and sharing faith principles and resources, encouraging folks to the local church.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Through partnerships with food providers and retailers, such as Sams, Publix, Bi-Lo, Walmart, Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, Target, and community/Church food drives, we stock a full service Food Pantry with a Walk in Freezer and Commercial refrigerators: storage for frozen meat, produce, non perishable foods, dairy, sweets, breads, and drinks. Partnerships with the local church/community provide labor needed for stocking and distribution.
For financial assistance, partnerships with The Spartanburg County Foundation, the United Way of the Piedmont, and Duke Energy, along with Federal and State entities are pursued for maximum available resources for clients.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
A full time truck and driver dedicated to servicing any Pantry needs.
Community labor/food drives
Administrative support - grants and fundraising
Currently serving 5,000 families per year (100 per week), nearly 1,450 individuals with a week/ten days of food.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Client needs are spiking again due to Covid19, however, GSM has been able to serve every client during 2020 with a food package. Many clients repeatedly due to unemployment and layoffs. GSM survives and serves. the GSM food offering has increased in volume as the community has responded with support. GSM keeps growing with more support as people recognize the needs. A full grocery cart of food has replaced a small bag over the last 14 years.
GSM's goal is to meet the need to resolve food insecurity and financial crisis as the demand for these services increase, through more partnerships and community support.
