What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
CATR's Therapeutic Riding Programs
CATR offers programs one-on-one or in small groups at our facility on Johns Island, SC. We have several classes of special education students from area public school who participate during school hours as part of their curriculum. On Saturdays and weekday afternoon we offer private lessons for children and adults. Programs are structured to individual needs and abilities. Our staff collects information from physicians, therapists, teachers, and family in order to develop the most effective program for an individual or a specific group.
Scholarship Program
CATR's Scholarship Program allows children and adults with disabilities to have the opportunity to benefit from therapeutic riding. All students are on partial scholarship paying a $35 nominal fee at most for a therapeutic lesson that costs $120 to conduct. CATR has a policy to not turn anyone away due to inability to pay so we offer sliding scale scholarships to those who cannot afford the $35 fee and we have several students who ride on full scholarship, funded entirely by CATR's scholarship program.
Public School Program
CATR's Public School Program serves children from self-contained special education classrooms in our tri-county area. These are children from low-income schools who in addition to having a disability face the challenges of coming from a low socio-economic background. They would not otherwise have the opportunity to benefit physically, cognitively and emotionally from therapeutic riding.
Veterans Program
CATR's Veterans Program serves wounded service members of the U.S. military in conjunction with the Ralph H. Johnson VA hospital.
