Programs and results
What we aim to solve
The mission of Keep North Charleston Beautiful is to enhance the beauty of the City of North Charleston through hands-on beautification efforts and education, and to support community beautification and litter cleanups activities.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Bloom Kits
KNCB’s Bloom Kit program is where one volunteer or several volunteers complete landscaping tasks in a North Charleston public garden for a minimum of twice per month. Volunteers will receive training on proper gardening techniques along with all of the supplies that are necessary to complete gardening tasks in the garden.
Field Trips/Education
During the month of October, KNCB invites preschool classes to visit the Park Circle Butterfly Garden for an educational program created and presented by KNCB volunteers. Education is provided to the community (on topics such as environmental stewardship, beautification, taking care of the Earth, not littering, and recycling) throughout the year.
Flowerscape
The goal of the Flowerscape program is to plant colorful gardens in highly traveled locations that will positively impact the North Charleston community. Flowerscapes planted in City parks are maintained by volunteer groups.
Free Community Litter Cleanup Kits
KNCB provides free litter pickup kits to community volunteers who organize their own community cleanup. Some cleanup supplies are limited and are distributed on a first come, first served basis. Thank you to Keep America Beautiful and GLAD for providing trash bags for these cleanup kits!
Group Volunteer Projects
KNCB staff will help you organize a beautification event for your group in a public garden. This is a great team building project for your group that allows your team to work together to beautify the community through volunteer service.
Butterfly Gardens
Keep North Charleston Beautiful maintains two butterfly gardens in North Charleston. These gardens are located on the grounds of two community centers in North Charleston and are open to the public during normal park operating hours. The gardens are not enclosed, but are part of a natural garden setting. They are wonderful locations to observe and learn about butterflies and other pollinators along with some of the sustainable plants that attract them.
