Mission

Grow the Sport. Impact the Community. Grow PTI.

As a charitable Community Tennis Association, PTI will continue to grow the sport of tennis, primarily at public facilities, by building affordable programs and opportunities to learn and play.  As an NJTL (National Junior Tennis and Learning) organization, we seek coaching opportunities which teach, illuminate and demonstrate life skills and educational concepts using tennis as a game and context for learning.

In 2019 and early 2020, PTI made steady progress toward accomplishing our strategic goals: Goal 1 – Provide portable and sustainable tennis programs for more youth and adults. Elementary programs expanded to additional schools and the number of special needs athletes grew from 75 to over 145.Goal 2 –Recruit, train, nurture, coordinate and retain professional coaches and volunteers to support the tennis and learning goals of each program. PTI now utilizes three professional coaches and has a team of over 40 active volunteers. Training occurs annually and on an ongoing basis. Work is underway to develop a web based training series to roll out later in 2020. Goal 3 – Partner with Beaufort County on a long term maintenance/renovation plan for existing facilities and on new plans to build one or more regional tennis centers. Work was completed on the Cordillo courts in Hilton Head and renovations were started on the Beaufort Public courts. An initial presentation was held with the Beaufort County Planning Committee regarding plans and interest in a regional tennis center proposed for Bluffton. Goal 4 – Secure and expand the number of external tennis events hosted in Beaufort County, SC.The number of UTR based events grew from zero to three in 2019. USTA sponsored events also grew last year.Goal 5 -- Embrace opportunities to leverage technology and original Instructional materials to support PTI program growth. The publictennis.org site is updated regularly. Work on a volunteer portal was initiated and reviewed withe USTA. The 2020 pandemic has had an impact on the approach and timing for completion of several PTI initiatives. Work has shifted to development of online training modules, Covid 19 relief initiatives and  new ways to safely deliver tennis programs for youth and adults.
