What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Counseling Services

Our psychotherapists are licensed clinical social workers who provide individual and family psychotherapy and counseling for women, children and families from the Bronx, Manhattan and lower Westchester. We believe in the unique potential and gifts of each individual to grow, develop and overcome personal, family and life obstacles and challenges.

Population(s) Served
Families

The Senior Run Program provides care and services that enhance the quality of life of senior adults, especially where there are gaps of services offered in our community. Services include home visits for the homebound, monthly activities, shopping trips, and guest speakers.

Population(s) Served
Seniors

The ESL Program was started in 2016 when it was realized that residents in our Bronx community experienced difficulty effectively communicating in their everyday lives due to language barriers. Most are immigrants, and economically disadvantaged. Our no-cost program is designed to help adults learn English communication skills so they can better function in their community.

The Big Sister Little Sister Mentoring Program serves low income and at-risk girls ages 8-11 who live in public housing in the Bronx, connecting them with mentors from Preston High School. The mentors assist with homework, motivating and encouraging their Little Sisters to do their best in school, and to improve their attendance, behavior and academic achievement.

Girls

Our Summer Recreational Program fills a need in the local community for working parents to have an affordable camp providing day care for their children over the summer break. The seven-week program for girls and boys ages 4-14 includes both indoor and outdoor activities in a safe and fun environment.

Population(s) Served
Children and youth

Our teachers and tutoring staff provide after-school tutoring for boys and girls in Grades 1-8 to help each child meet their goals for the academic year. The program includes intensive assistance in Math & Language Arts in a small group setting, and help with homework and study skills. Preston Center of Compassion is also an approved NYC Individual Educational Plan (IEP) tutoring program.

Population(s) Served

Each school day afternoon, Preston Center offers a low-cost recreation program for students from local public schools. This allows our working parents affordable after-school care, and the students benefit from our program that provides dedicated homework time, and stresses fitness activities.
