What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Forensic Interview Program
Child forensic interviews are designed to be neutral and fact-finding in an environment where the child feels safe telling the facts of any incident which may or may not have occurred. Interviews are conducted by trained CAC staff and are observed by law enforcement and a child protective services worker. Forensic Interviews provide thorough incident disclosure by the child in ONE interview, thereby eliminating the need for the child to undergo multiple interviews. Our forensic interviewers also serve as "expert witnesses" in court proceedings. Interviews are recorded for accurate documentation.
Medical Program
After a disclosure or concern of abuse, it is often helpful for a child to see a medical professional. A comprehensive and carefully conducted medical exam is performed on-site at no cost to the family by a pediatric nurse practitioner who specializes in pediatric sexual assault evaluations. An exam involves a complete medical history followed by a thorough head-to-toe exam similar to a normal checkup at a pediatrician’s office. The medical exam can identify any medical issues or forensic findings that need attention. The medical exam is not invasive and should cause your child no pain. The CAC in the state of Tennessee with a full-time Sexual Assault Nurse Practitioner on site. It is normal for children and their families to feel anxious about the exam. The medical provider will take as much time as necessary to help throughout the exam by explaining each step and finding ways to put the child at ease.
Clinical Program
The Clinical Program includes Therapy and Family Advocacy. The therapy model used by CACHC, trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, is recognized as the best-practice response for child abuse victims in the most developmentally appropriate and holistic way. The CACHC Clinical Therapy program helps our most vulnerable citizens heal from their abuse and realize their long-term potential. Through our doors lives are changed, and children are able to go back to being normal and healthy kids after experiencing the unimaginable. The family advocate assists the non-offending parent or caretaker with services needed to maintain a safe and stable environment for their children. We also assist the family in filing for Victim's Compensation Funds for the child.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
We empower Hamilton County to believe and protect every child from abuse through help, hope, and healing.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
The Children’s Advocacy Center: The Emmy Haney House (CAC) was established as a private, non-profit agency in 1991 to provide a safe and caring environment for abused children to receive the services they need in one comprehensive facility. Through our services, we help victims of child sexual abuse through the trauma they have endured. Our goal with every child is that they lead normal, healthy, productive lives, thereby breaking the cycle of abuse. The CAC is uniquely designed to serve children who have experienced the unimaginable.
The CAC is nationally-accredited by the National Children’s Alliance (NCA) and provides forensic interviews, medical examinations, therapy, and family advocacy. These services are offered at no charge. Children referred by the Department of Children’s Services or law enforcement. The CAC also provides community education programs to parents, educators, and youth-serving professionals, as well as children’s groups.
The CAC facilitates the teamwork essential for effective intervention and healing. The CAC becomes a location where all professionals and agencies responsible for investigating and providing services can provide a coordinated response to the abuse on a child’s developmentally appropriate level. This prevents the potential re-victimization of the child by requiring the child to travel to many different locations to be interviewed and served by many different adult “strangers.”
