McFarlane Nature Park
An 11.3 acre park in Cobb County maintained for the use and enjoyment of visitors including scouts.
Piedmont Native Tree Collection
McFarlane Nature Park is home to a large and complete collection of trees native to the Piedmont region of Georgia. Trees planted in October 2021 completed the collection of Quercus. 97 species are represented, which includes 14 different Quercus (Oak). Another eight Georgia natives present in the Park are Coastal Plain species. It is the intention of Park-keepers to complete tagging of trees for the information of visitors, possible with QR codes to make additional information about each tree more accessible. Arboretum status will be sought when some basic qualifications are met, to include educational programs.
Native Azalea Collection
After significant additions in Fall 2020, the Park now houses a large collection of native azaleas. Current records reflect 141 individual plants, most of which are pure species and some are Exbury crosses. The expansion of this collection will continue.
