Mission

Old Fella Burke County Animal Rescue exists to improve the quality of life of forsaken companion animals by giving them medical care, food, water, shelter and love. This is accomplished via our foster home network and through efforts to find suitable forever homes through our adoption and transport programs. We strive to reduce the number of homeless companion animals, not just in Burke County, but across the CSRA. We do this by providing access to low cost, or free, spay-neuter surgeries and by raising community awareness about responsible pet ownership through humane education to elementary school children. The prevention of animal cruelty is central to all we do.

Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

The Litter Patrol (Spay Neuter)

Old Fella operates a
spay-neuter program, whereby we not only see to the spay and neuter of our
adoptables, but where we transport companion animals of Burke County, Georgia residents
to spay-neuter clinics and pay for the surgeries and pre-surgical
vaccinations.

Population(s) Served

Old Fella has a vibrant humane education program committed to providing quality character education to the children in Burke County in both the public and private school systems.

Population(s) Served

Old Fella rescues abandoned companion animals, providing for medical care, temporary housing and daily care in foster homes, obedience training and permanent placement via adoption.

Population(s) Served

Burke is a rural county. There are not many people that live here. Therefore, it is very difficult to find these forever homes within the county line. Because of this, we partner with other rescue organizations located in denser population centers to help us find forever homes for our Old Fella rescues. These organizations take in our Old Fella’s and adopt them out in the metro Atlanta area as well as in New England.

Population(s) Served

Old Fella’s success is because of a small, but determined group of volunteers who spend countless hours for the homeless animals of Burke County. These volunteers dream of a facility to provide a safe haven for those in need as well as an adoption and education facility that will help to make our mission a little easier.Old Fella, with a generous land donation, is ready to build. With an outpouring of public support we have acquired architectural plans, building permits, driveway, and well.Labor and materials have also been donated: construction foreman services, sheetrock, electrical and plumbing labor as well as plumbing and electrical materials.
Local grassroots fundraising efforts have been underway. Car washes, bake sales, garage sales, concessions at local events and an army of coin jars at local establishments have slowly increased our building fund, but it is now time to break ground and we need more help to accomplish our vision.

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

We envision a day when Burke County will have a safe haven for animals in need. When they will not be dumped at the dumpster sites or on the rural dirt roads of our county. When they will not be reproducing unwanted offspring. We envision a day when owners will be responsible for the well being of their animals.

We envision the day when no animal will suffer because of human abuse, neglect or ignorance and that every pet born will be assured of a good home and care for a lifetime.
