OVARIAN CANCER INSTITUTE INC
A collaborative fight against ovarian cancer
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Currently, there is not an early diagnostic test for ovarian cancer. Georgia Tech funded researchers have developed a test that is 100% sensitive and specific. Researchers have also developed a targeted, specific chemotherapy to eradicate ovarian cancer tumors, instead of the chemotherapy impacting the entire body. In addition, researchers have developed a way to determine which kind of chemotherapy would have the greatest impact on ovarian cancer tumors by analyzing genetic markers.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Acquire enough stage 1 ovarian cancer samples in order to validate the early diagnostic test and seek FDA approval.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Acquire approximately 500 more stage 1 ovarian cancer serum samples. Additional funding is needed in order for this to happen.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
OCI has an extensive network of researchers, donors and clinicians. Samples are in the process of being located and ideas for fundraising have been discussed.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
About 200 samples have been acquired, once approximately 500 more are collected, OCI will be able to validate the test.
