Keeping Families Close
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
We work to address the needs of families with ill children, by providing housing, meals and other support services so they can focus on the health of their child. Ronald McDonald House Charities believes that home is any place where families are together. We believe that healing happens over laughter and bedtime stories. We believe that an island of refuge in a sea of chaos is as powerful as any medicine. We believe in keeping families close.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Ronald McDonald House
Many families travel far from home and spend several weeks or months to get treatment for their seriously ill, critically injured or medically fragile children – a long time to be away from home or divide a family. Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Georgia provides a ‘home-away-from-home’ for families so they can stay close to their hospitalized child at little or no cost.

What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Georgia provides care and comfort for the families of seriously ill, critically injured or medically fragile children being treated at area medical facilities. We strive to strengthen families by keeping them close in times of medical need and crisis.\n\nSince opening in 2002, we have provided comfortable beds, warm meals, hot showers, laundry facilities, internet access, and emotional support to over 8,000 families. When we opened our doors, we opened our hearts as well.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We currently have 28 guest rooms, a community kitchen, volunteers to provide a care-centered environment. We receive donations of food, supplies, and money to support our families. We are beginning construction to expand our facility to need the growing needs of families.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We have been able to meet the needs of most families, however, we have had a waiting list of over 2,600 families since our opening in 2002. Given this challenge and the expansion of our Children's Hospital, we have expanded our facility by adding 15 more guest rooms for a total of 28 guest rooms for families.
