What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Barn Buddy Program
Barn Buddies is a program designed to build bonds between foster/adopted children with attachment and trust issues with horses who have been neglected and abused and now living in foster care at the rescue farm.
Volunteers from Save the Horses facilitate the partnership between child and animal and foster the relationship between all three. It is the goal of the Barn Buddy Program to see children and animals learn to love and trust because of their time together. Research shows that children with attachment issues can successfully attach to animals and eventually transfer that trust to the people in their lives.
Pink Horse Shoe Fund
Our Pink Horse Shoe Fund was established to help support horses with cancer and help assist with medical bills.
We have had many horses with cancer in and around their eyes, and on their skin. Melanomas and Squamous cells are not as uncommon as it once was and treatment can be expensive. It can be a truly life and death situation.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
We realize the connection between horses and humans and are developing programs helping horses help humans. Researchers have explored the horse/human relationship a great deal in recent years, particularly the therapeutic benefits of interacting with horses. Helping horses helps humans.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We have a Barn Buddy Program matching foster children with horses in need of a home/family. This environment allows for children to develop a bond with an animal they can relate to while making meaning of their own foster/adoption story.
We are starting a Filly Program for woman affected by breast cancer and have started a group of humans who are dealing with the loss of a loved one. Recent studies conducted by the Institute of HeartMath provide a clue to explain the bidirectional “healing" that happens when we are near horses.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We have many wonderful volunteers who help us run these programs but we are now ready to make it grow by obtaining grants and raising funds specifically for these these programs.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We are getting our paperwork in better order and exploring grants available for our programs. We have put together a strong team of dedicated volunteers who are helping this vision come to fruition.
