Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
SERV 1 Feed 1
The SERV 1 FEED 1 project specializes in distributing nutrient-rich, dehydrated meals to those living in famine and drought. One 8-ounce serving of SERV FOOD can feed a person in a developing nation for a day. Since 2007, SERV has distributed more than 16 million meals to people globally.
SERV FOOD is produced in the United States and Kenya, supporting the livelihood of local farmers and providing jobs to many. For only 8 cents, you can feed a person for an entire day. For $8, you can provide food for 100 people OR one person for 100 days!
Safe 2 SERV
Today, more than 1.1 billion people in developing countries have inadequate access to water, and over 2.6 billion lack basic sanitation. Close to half of all people in developing countries suffer, at any given time, from health problem caused by water and sanitation deficiencies.
At SERV International, we believe all humans should have access to resources sufficient to meet their basic life needs, and are addressing the water crisis one family at a time. Safe 2 SERV Water Filters is our clean-water initiative, currently being deployed in the Dominican Republic and Kenya. SERV’s water filtration systems are guaranteed to filter up to 1 million gallons of fresh, clean, safe water with very little maintenance. $65 provides clean water for a family for up to 10 years.
Greenhouse Agriculture
At House of Hope in Kenya, there are currently three greenhouses that produce tons of fruit and vegetables for the kids at the orphanage and the local community – right in the middle of the Kenyan desert! SERV has drilled a well and installed a filtration system/drip irrigation system that allows our produce to thrive in the desert environment. We have room for additional green houses, as the more fruit and vegetables we can grow, the more people we can feed.
We are excited to be able to sell our produce at the SERV Store Kenya, helping supply the local community and refugee camps nearby with life-giving food. The green houses and SERV Store Kenya also teach entrepreneurial and real-life skills to our orphans, as well as create jobs in the local community. Each new greenhouse kit costs $4,000, and includes all of the materials, seeds, seedlings, soil and more.
Service Trips
Facilitate and lead service trips to the areas in which we work. Trips are a combination of service work, relationship building and development of resources to aid beneficiaries.
Pastor Training & Church Planting
Planting churches in remote villages of Kenya is a challenging task. SERV is training pastors in the villages to start their own churches and then travel to near by villages to plant or expand churches.
We currently have 5 pastors under our training program and are excited to grow with this program.

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our ultimate goals as an organization is to continue to give millions of people that do not have access to food a nutritious meal. In addition, we are working to raise up the next generation of leaders via our House of Hope orphanage by providing nutritious food, health care, education, clothing, shelter and personal/spiritual coaching. We are trying to give the remote villages a chance to improve themselves, by providing clean and accessible water. Planting churches and train pastors to lead their communities to Christ.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Our strategy for accomplishing our goals in our primary three areas of focus are as follows:
Work through partnerships to go further faster.
Meet physical needs with resources which then becomes a catalyst for relationship and an opportunity to help with spiritual needs.
Remain very personal as an organization and report the results to our donor base.
Continue to encourage and guide the people that we help to move from relief, to development to self-sustainment.
Above all, do no harm to those we serve.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
With an organizational track record of over a decade we, at SERV feel uniquely qualified to perform at a high level of excellence in the areas of food distribution, rescuing of orphans and giving people access to clean water. With our extensive network of partnership in both Kenya and the Dominican Republic and a staff of (15) in Kenya we feel well positioned to carry out our goals and strategy. Because of this extensive network of partnerships, it allows us to keep our U.S. based staff small and better steward financial resources towards programs and life change.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Working to change the lives of people and positively impacting a culture can take decades. Our long-term goal continues to be to leave people groups that we are serving better off than we found them. We continue to pay close attention to culture and work to introduce new ideas that will improve quality of life and give hope spiritually for the future. We have found that handing out resources without teaching or requiring participation from an educational or financial standpoint can create dependency and entitlement. We want avoid this at all costs and empower people to become self-sustaining.
