What we aim to solve
There is an urgent global need for pediatric surgery in developing countries. Childspring International is a Georgia based nonprofit organization that provides life-changing surgical services to children in developing countries around the world. Pediatric surgery is often overlooked and considered to be non-essential in most developing countries (Bickler, S. W., & H. Rode), even though it can be effectively used to prevent death or correct deformities in children (World Health Organization).
Good health is crucial for human and economic development. In particular, poor health in childhood is of the utmost concern. Without intervention, children all over the world will continue to suffer from treatable conditions and diseases, and be held back from living to their fullest potential. If their medical condition prevents them from a normal childhood, their contributions to society in the future would be extremely minimized, and the cycle of poverty will persist.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Project Healthy Hearts
Screens underserved children semi-annually to determine their need for heart surgery, Surgeries are performed each month. Additionally, our services include providing ongoing prescription medication and transportation as needed, as well as surgery and recovery fees.
Project 365
The vast majority of these operations are hernia surgeries performed on children 5-18 years of age. An average of 12 - 15 surgeries per month are performed. Due to the critical nature of urology cases, children with these conditions are treated as early in life as possible
Project Little Eyes
Provides surgery for children with eye conditions. Services include pre/post-op exams, anesthesia, and medication as well as food and lodging for the child and parent.
Project Sonrisas/Project Smiles
Annual mission trip to provide surgery for children born with cleft lip and palate. Most children have surgery within the first year or two of life for successful repair. Also partnering in Tajikistan for cleft lip and palate surgeries.
Project Bridges
This program allows us to broaden the medical service we provide children and their families. The medical care provided through this program varies depending on the condition of the sick or injured. When children's conditions cannot be treated in their home country, pathways are created for care in the United States.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our vision is to become the leading facilitator of quality life-saving surgeries for children in need, resulting in 5,000 transformed children's lives throughout the global community by the year 2021. This is a goal we are honored to have achieved last year. A new strategic plan is on the slate for 2022 with the two co-chairs for this committee already in place.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
To address the medical needs of children in developing countries, Childspring partners with hospitals, doctors, and healthcare providers to connect children to medical care all around the world. Effective in 2018, the Childspring International Board of Directors approved a revised strategic plan that focuses on boosting organizational efficiency and cost-effectiveness by increasing our international partnerships and increasing organization infrastructure. This process now allows us to treat more children internationally at a lower cost.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Childspring International has arranged critical surgeries for children in more than a dozen different specialties, including cardiology, ENT, gastrointestinal, neurology, ophthalmology, orthopedic, cranial-facial, prosthetic and urology.
Each case is presented to our medical committee, which is comprised of doctors in these specialties. We do not accept cases that are outside of our scope.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Currently, Childspring International has over ten global partners and together we meet the medical needs of children in 50 developing countries. Childspring continues to see an increase in the number of children served every year. As of 2021, Childspring has served more than a total of 5,000 children.
