Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Arts on the Grow
A bilingual Spanish/English interdisciplinary program in 18 Head Start classrooms, including those in rural low-income communities in West Volusia County.
We Are Starke
Interactive art program for elementary students at Starke Elementary.
Family Fun Saturdays
A free day each month to tour the gallery and participate in hands-on art activities for the whole family.
The Legendary Florida Collection
In this collection, artist Jackson Walker weaves a visual tapestry of Florida's long and eventful past. Along with our docent-guided tours for students and adults, these uniquely executed, storytelling works of art take the viewer on a special journey back in time.
Gallery Talks and Educational Tours for each Exhbition
For each exhibition (4 per year) the museum offers gallery talks and educational tours for young and old alike, to foster the appreciation and understanding of the individual artists and their work.
Art of Reflection and Response Teacher Institute
The Institute is an immersive professional development program providing strategies that help teachers merge arts standards with core curricula to provide engaging correlations across content areas. By incorporating the intersection between Language Arts and Mathematics Florida Core Standards and VIsual Arts, the Institute's approach encourages the development of actively engaged students and provides enhanced opportunities for teacher collaboration through modeling, guided practice, research, reflection, and application. Now in its 4th year (2017), the Institute provides 36 professional development credits to educators who complete the year-long program. The Institue has a 90% completion rate, with some teachers returning multiple years.
DeLand Sculpture Walk
A collaborative effort offering established and emerging artists the opportunity to display their work throughout downtown DeLand. The sculptures change annually, contributing to the quality of life for DeLand residents as well as to the educational and cultural tourism visitor.
Field Study and Outreach Programs
The Museum's educational programs, supported by Florida Standards, enhance the classroom learning experience by providing opportunities for students and teachers through first-hand encounters with original works of art while promoting critical thinking and strengthening visual literacy and verbal skills.
Guided Field Study offers an inquiry-based exhibition overview or selected themes, including How to Read a Painting; The Principles and Elements of Art; and What's the Story? Gallery writing and/or sketching activities may be scheduled. Free to all Volusia County Public Schools
Self-Guided Field Study is for groups of 10 or more who wish to discover the Museum on their own.
Art of Reflection and Response is a three-part multi-visit program including a pre- and post-classroom visit and Guided Museum Field Study.
Classroom Outreach brings quality art education experiences to enhance classroom instruction for students unable to visit the Museum.

Goals & Strategy
Learn about the organization's key goals, strategies, capabilities, and progress.
Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
1) Increase the Museum's profile in the community, region, state and beyond through unique educational and cultural exhibits, programs, and services. 2) Ensure that exhibits, programs, and services are broadly marketed and available to a diverse audience of Florida residents and visitors.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
1) Present 13 changing exhibitions featuring two- and three-dimensional works of artistic significance; 2) Provide relevant educational experiences for students and adults of all ages and abilities in order to expand their intellectual investigation through structured and unstructured learning; 3) Provide art in public places throughout the City and County as an integral part of the broader visioning program to include arts and culture in the community; 4) Promote and advertise exhibitions and programming using a variety of media to increase attendance, participation, and membership.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We will utilize activities currently in place as well as expand our partnerships with artists, galleries, governmental organizations, NGOs, theaters, and expand our reach through paid and earned media.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
The Museum of Art - DeLand makes a quantifiable economic impact on its area of operation throughout Volusia County, Central Florida and the State. Using Americans for the Arts methodologies, programs during the last fiscal year generated 85 FTE jobs and contributed $301,548 to local and state revenues. Apart from our employees, the Museum contracts for services including facilities/grounds maintenance, janitorial, printers, photographers, teachers, IT support, couriers and gallery techs. By way of focused educational and outreach programs, the Museum provides opportunities for learning, creating, discussing, and connecting to art through its exhibitions and collections. The Art of Reflection and Response Teacher Institute is free for teachers and fulfills 36 credit hours of Volusia County School's Professional Development program and is highly-sought after by teachers in Volusia County. The DeLand Sculpture Walk, established in 2010 enhances the experience, cultural image, and economic viability of downtown DeLand. New this year is the Utility Box Art program, to transform utility boxes as part of the Community Redevelopment Plan. Art from the Museum's permanent collection is on loan to educational, arts, historical, civic and government institutions throughout the region, as well as, Washington, D.C. Two years ago, the Museum joined a community-wide effort to bring a largely minority community school up from a failing grade to its full potential as an "A" school. Through new programming this year, the Museum will guide teachers in merging Florida Core Standards with the arts, and provide field trips to the galleries followed up with art, reading, and writing activities reinforcing the concepts explored during Museum visits.
