The Gardens at DePugh Skilled Nursing Center
The Gardens at DePugh Nursing Center, in collaboration with Our Whole Community and the Welbourne Avenue Day Care Center, offers a community gardening opportunity on a piece of The Garden's vacant property. This project employs under-utilized property to provide gardening plots that are available to the community at large. In addition to growing fruits, vegetables and flowers, residents of the home are also allowed to use the plots as they can. Use of the garden is a good way for the Welbourne Avenue Day Care Center to let their children experience the joy of gardening along side senior citizens.
Mary Lee DePugh Nursing Home Association
The Gardens at DePugh Nursing Center is a not-for-profit 40-bed facility that offers a full range of skilled nursing care, including daily access to physician care, physical, speech, occupational, and nutritional therapies, respite, and long-term care for the individualized needs of patients of all ethnic, racial, religious, and socio-economic backgrounds. The dedicated health care professional team is led by Kristine Miller, Executive Director.
The professional staff at The Gardens at DePugh Nursing Center provides 24-hour nursing care to the chronically ill and elderly and assists those recovering from strokes, heart attacks, orthopedic conditions, and other illnesses and injuries. The Gardens works closely with area hospitals, home health agencies, and hospices.
Private or semi-private rooms are fully equipped with all necessary modern amenities, including cable television and telephone service. Residents are encouraged to bring their special items (maybe a favorite chair, pictures, books, or a beloved quilt) to make them feel truly at home.
In 2019, the facility received no deficiencies during its annual survey. The Gardens currently has a 5 out of 5-Star rating from Florida's Association for Health Care Administration (AHCA) and is eligible to apply for the Governor's Gold Seal status. As the 3rd quarter of 2019 The Gardens at Depugh is proud to be a 5 star CMS rated facility.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our goal is to become the skilled nursing facility of choice in the Winter Park area. We aim serve the senior community that requires short-term and long-term care services. We aim to provide quality care and rehab services in a loving, home like environment. We will continue to be a 5 star CMS rated facility. In the next year, we intend to become Gold Seal and Joint Commission accrediated.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
The Gardens has applied for the Governor's Gold Seal Award. This award recognizes nursing home facilities that demonstrate excellence in long-term care over a sustained period, promotes the stability of the industry and facilitates the physical, social, and emotional well-being of nursing home facility residents. Approximately 100 facilities may qualify to apply for this award and, if awarded, the Gardens will be one of only approximately 30 facilities in Florida with this prestigious distinction.
The Gardens is also in the process of becoming Joint Commission accredited. Achieving accreditation makes a strong statement to the community about our efforts to provide the highest quality services and placing an emphasis on patient safety. Joint Commission is recognized by hospitals, insurers and other third parties. In some cases, becoming accredited is a prerequisite to eligibility for insurance reimbursement and for participation in managed care plans or contract bidding. By implementing Joint Commission standards, we will be able to focus on state-of-the-art performance improvement strategies that will help us continuously improve safety and quality of care, which can reduce the risk of error or low-quality care.
