Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Family Services Program
Because of the unique challenges caregivers face, Alzheimer's & Dementia Resource Center’s Family Services Program is designed to help the caregiver provide the best care possible for the patient, help prevent patient abuse, reduce stress, and improve the quality of life for the family members living with the disease. Some of the specific activities through which we fulfill this mission are:
Care Coaching. Coaching provides personal guidance to the caregiver on how to navigate their role as caregiver throughout the duration of the disease. Family Services program staff members also conduct advisory sessions to assist clients one-on-one with specific care giving needs.
Information and Referral. An information and referral specialist provides resources and assistance via telephone contact and in person. ADRC provides literature by mail, e-mail, through other agencies and distributes it at health fairs and maintains an on-site library.
Caregiver/Community Education and Awareness/Wellness Activities. Regular events include educational seminars and community programs on a variety of topics,
Professional Caregiver Curriculum. The Alzheimer's & Dementia Resource Center is a provider of professional Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias curriculum that meets State of Florida mandated educational requirements for professional caregivers (including Alzheimer’s I and Alzheimer’s II).
Brain Bank Program
ADRC has been a designated coordinator for enrollment of the State of Florida Brain Bank Research Program for 28 years. The agency is contracted through the Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Miami for this state-funded program, and is responsible for a 22-county area across Central and Northern Florida. This initiative furthers research on Alzheimer’s by coordinating the donation of brain tissue of those who have died with the disease. Results of research that is conducted on brain tissue donated through the Central Florida Brain Bank program are disseminated by the educational institutions that conduct the research. As a regional coordinator for the Brain Bank program, Alzheimer's & Dementia Resource Center promotes and educates the public and medical providers, physicians and other referral sources on the availability of the Brain Bank through presentations and other informational vehicles; enrolls eligible participants and completes all required paperwork; serves as liaison handling correspondence between researchers/ physicians and the families once the neuro-pathological report is completed; and provides grief counseling on a regular basis and also offers a significant amount of one-on-one counseling and case management for families and caregivers both in person and on the telephone.
The Brain Bank program provides the family closure through a definitive diagnosis, by counseling them before and after the death and by helping families understand their genetic risk of this devastating group of diseases.
