KC also sponsors a Summer Feeding Program under the Florida Department of Education – Summer Food Service Program. This summer (2014) there are 39 sites on board and prepared to serve up to 3,500 children in the course of 10 weeks.
• Expanded Summer Lunch into Marion and Suwannee Counties. Formed partnership with Alachua County Libraries to serve meals one day a week a four libraries.
USDA TEFAP Distribution
• BMFB is a local administrator and distributor for the US Department of Agriculture, The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP, aka - the commodities program). Commodities are distributed through a network of 24 front-line agencies. BMFB also distributes commodities directly to individuals in a mobile food pantry venue.
SNAP Outreach Program
• SNAP Program: Provides application assistance for qualified citizens to receive much needed financial and medical benefits. Our SNAP (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program) outreach project averages 15 to 20 site visits per month as well as providing case management support and scheduled office hours to help monitor and maintain benefits.
