Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
15 Week Program
This is our primary teaching program. Students stay on our campus - which is designed as a simulated developing world village - and learn about Cross-cultural Communication, Sustainable Agriculture, Small Animal Husbandry, Primary Health and Nutrition, and Technologies appropriate for the developing world context. Along with these primary subject areas, students design, plan and execute their own projects for the improvement of the quality of life in the developing world. Learning at HEART is an even split of traditional classroom teaching and hands-on practical application.
We run two 15 week programs a year: a Spring term (from mid-January to early May) and a Fall term (from late August to mid-December).
The goal of this program is to equip community development workers with practical skills to empower the poor and hungry.
3 Week Program
This is a condensed version of our primary 15 week program. Students stay on our campus - which is designed as a simulated developing world village - and learn an overview of Cross-cultural Communication, Sustainable Agriculture, Small Animal Husbandry, Primary Health and Nutrition, and Technologies appropriate for the developing world context. Learning at HEART is an even split of traditional classroom teaching and hands-on practical application.
We run on 3 week program a year during the month of May.
The goal of this program is to equip community development workers with practical skills to empower the poor and hungry.
MAV (Mission Awareness Venture
Mission Awareness Ventures – or MAVs for short – is our highly customizable program for short-term groups wanting the HEART experience. Groups of 10 or more come to the village for as little as one day, or as long as two weeks. The subject matter is often the same as our normal programs; covering Cross-cultural Communication, Sustainable Agriculture, Small Animal Husbandry, Primary Health and Nutrition, and Technologies appropriate for the developing world context. The experience can be tailored to whatever interests or learning objectives the group leaders define.
This program is open to anyone from middle school age and up provided chaperones are present at all times.
