A Great Reckoning in a Little Room
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
We are still working diligently to get a board structure and workflow that will better take advantage of opportunities for growth and development. We are restructuring all of our committees, have brought in a few members, and are working up a strategic long-term plan for fundraising.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Mainstage season
Six or more professionally produced theatrical productions per season in the Shimberg Playhouse and Jaeb Theater at the Straz Center in downtown Tampa.
Job-side Productions
Two or more low budget productions in either late night slots or nights dark for mainstage performances. A theatrical laboratory for our ensemble.
Job-side Staged Readings
A series to host Monday night play readings of unpublished work by our ensemble. Typically once per month
Educational Outreach
We offer year-round educational services: weekday matinees for school groups, special group rates for standard curtains, study guides, in-class visits by artists leading up to or after a performance, on-site tours, talkbacks, public forums on themes and topics generated by the play.

Goals & Strategy
Learn about the organization's key goals, strategies, capabilities, and progress.
Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
To be the premiere professional regional theater company in the Tampa Bay region.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Excellence in every area of production, creating strong ties in every area of the community, and doing all we can to participate in educational opportunities to help create tomorrow's audiences. One way we attempt to do all three of those things is in our casting of actors, we are working very hard to be conscious that the people on our stage reflect the diversity in our community.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
As resident theater company of one of the largest performing arts centers in the country, we have a very unique opportunity in our ability to reach people. We've been at this for 20 years now, a testament of our staying power.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We've grown our education program from serving a few hundred people annually to now reaching over 2,500. Ticket sales for shows just two years ago averaged $25,000 per production and now top over $35,000. We hope to be able to increase these numbers annually. Our goal for next year is to reach over 3,000 students.

- We review compensation data across the organization (and by staff levels) to identify disparities by race.
- We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
- We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
- We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
