Mission

Bates Community Development Corporation was established in 1998 to engage in a wide range of community development activities that promote empowerment among individuals, families and community groups in the Smoketown and Shelby Park neighborhoods. BCDC addresses its mission by providing services that combat blight and deterioration as well as by contributing to the advancement of community life for residents of the Louisville Metro area.

A Pearl to Wear Clothes Closet

A Pearl to Wear Clothes Closet provides gently used clothing and household goods year round. Individuals of all ages receive personal care items, work-readiness clothing and shoes from a large selection that meets the needs of adults and children.

Fresh produce is distributed once weekly to community residents. Emergency food boxes are also available to community residents to individuals and families based upon need with priority given to families with children.

Program provides information to raise awareness in addressing personal health medical care. BCDC hosts healthcare events, smoking cessation classes, nutrition and healthy cooking classes, and offers weekly fitness classes which include aerobics, core strength dancing training and Zumba

Kingdom Academy offers homework help, reading & math skills development, and educationally enriching after-school activities in a safe and nurturing environment to children from pre-K to the 8th grade

BCDC provides a hot and nutrition midday meal to community residents every Saturday.

Kingdom Academy provides cultural, educational and recreational enrichment activities to children ages 4-14 during the summer months. The mission of Kingdom Academy is to serve school-aged children by providing education and continued learnng, fellowship and activities in a safe and nurturing environment. The program embraces cultural distinctiveness, by instilling kingdom focused principles to everyday activities, and by engaging and encouraging parents/guardians of children and youth in a way that enhances family values produces productive adults.
