What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
BIG FIX
Monthly clinic at which an average of 150 unowned cats are spayed or neutered by volunteer vets and laypeople. The service is donation based -- no fee is charged.
Quick Fix
Spay/neuter services for unowned cats provided by low cost spay/neuter clinic and veterinarian clinics during their open clinic hours each week. Spaying/neutering 125 cats per week.
Neighborhoods Program
Alley Cat Neighborhoods is a program of Alley Cat Advocates that focuses our Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) efforts in targeted Louisville zip codes. The program developed is significantly reducing the intake of cats into local shelters (and therefore the euthanasia of those cats).
Operation City Kitty
The Operation City Kitty program is designed to keep cats from entering our community’s shelters and, for those who do enter the shelter, to get back home safe and sound.
Unowned cats received at the our local shelter with the tipped ear signifying TNR are returned to their neighborhoods. Unowned cats received at the shelter without an ear-tip are spayed/neutered and returned to their neighborhood. An average of 70 cats per month go through the program. Alley Cat Advocates also works to improve relations between caretakers and their neighbors. Volunteers accompany animal control officers on neighborhood rides, meeting with residents, resolving conflicts over community cats, and offering TNR services. Volunteers and animal control officers also partner as trappers, trapping for citizens who need physical or transportation assistance. Ride-alongs and flyer distribution also educate neighborhood residents about the benefits of community cat populations.
