What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

The current system of education in the United States was created for the industrial-age needs, particularly for prducing compliant, disciplined, efficient, and hard working factory workers to meet the demands of a booming industrial economy. It has systematically and successfully grounded the concept of education on utilitarian ground, reducing the holistic system to a set of skills needed for economic performance, competition and efficiency primarily for the benefit of the state rather than the individual. It turned children into cogs in an economic machine; children who are dependent, compliant, materialistic, and lacking in curiosity, imagination, self-knowledge and powers of reflection.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

We believe that knowledge is holistic and it comprises of the divine revelation and the rational and intellectual knowledge (i.e., the scientific method). Therefore, Islamic holistic education, there is no compartmentalization of knowledge into religious and secular.
The vast majority of educational systems are concerned and occupied only with mental capacities. The Islamic holistic educational system focuses on the instruction and training of the mind and the soul as well; therefore, education is a combination of transmission of knowledge and training of the soul and personality . At NISL, we take a student-centered approach, focusing on individual growth of every student in all academic subjects. Teachers at Nur Islamic School of Louisville not only work to ensure students learn the academics, but also focus on other critical areas of growth. Success is not simply measured by which the standardized achievement test or which top high school or college you get into, but it is defined by how well each of us has grown in our intellectual, emotional, social and ethical development. We believe that excellence must be a continuous pursuit and our measurements include becoming life-long learners and critical thinkers.

Our strategies include teaching social-emotional intelligence, growth mindset, grit, optimism, gratitude, zest, learning as a crucial element of our every day life in all stages of our life, curiosity, passion for learning and service to others, social justice advocacy, volunteer work, service learning, experience learning, and intergrated studies/curriculum.

An intentional and continuous education of our strategic framework toall stakeholders, the mission, vision, and values driven decision making, as well as careful strategic planning.

Students who graduate from our school get into top schools of their choice, are scoring in the 99th percentiles on academic achievement, and embody the student outcomes we have in our strategic framework.
