AUSTIN GREYHOUND ADOPTION

Mission

Our Mission... AGA's primary goal is to find responsible loving homes for purebred greyhounds after life on the racetrack and to acquaint the public with the desirability and availability of greyhounds as pets. AGA is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes within the meaning of section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code. Our volunteers work very hard to bring you the best possible hound for adoption. Small dog and cat testing are done so that a better placement may be achieved. Our hounds are taken to AGA's veterinarian immediately upon arrival to be spayed/neutered, heart worm tested, teeth cleaned, vaccinations, nails trimmed & bathed. Austin Greyhound Adoption is staffed entirely by volunteers dedicated to finding loving homes for retired racing greyhounds.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Greyhound Adoption Program

Austin Greyhound Adoption is staffed entirely by volunteers dedicated to finding loving homes for retired racing greyhounds. Volunteers are always needed to introduce people to these gentle creatures.
Foster families help newly retired racing greyhounds adjust to life in a home. They get to know each dog's personality which helps us to find the best forever home possible.
Austin Greyhound Adoption pays all medical expenses for greyhounds in foster care, and all we ask of foster families is that they love their foster dog like one of their own, feed it, and talk to prospective adopters about their foster dog.
The number of greyhounds we can bring into our program is limited only by the number of available foster homes. Please contact us if you would like to open your home and heart to a greyhound on their journey from the track to their forever family.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Continue to find and recruit new foster homes so we may increase the number of Greyhounds we are able to place into loving adoptive homes.

Continue to promote our mission and presence in the community by reaching out using various social media platforms (Facebook, website, email, etc.) and actively participating in local events focused on animal welfare, adoption, and rescue.

We maintain active and keep current website and social media pages. In addition to many special events, we also have greyhound "Meet & Greets" every Sunday at various pet stores in the Austin metro area. We also utilize a mass email platform for additional communication. Austin Greyhound Adoption is recognized as a preferred adoption organization by both the Texas Greyhound Association and the National Greyhound Association.

Our number of adoptions annually has increased over each of the last several years, as well as, a substantial increase in the number of people following our social media pages and subscriptions to our email list. We are regularly asked to participate in community events and our volunteers remain proactive and involved.
