Mission

Field Ready is a US-based 501(c)(3) non-governmental, non- profit organization that is pioneering ways to provide humanitarian relief and meet needs by transforming logistics and ultimately how aid is provided. Our vision is to meet humanitarian need by transforming logistics through technology, innovative design and engaging people in new ways. Field Ready brings manufacturing to challenging places. We train others to solve problems locally in areas such as health, water and sanitation. We use different technologies (traditional, appropriate and exponential) to achieve our goals. We work worldwide in places such as Haiti, Nepal, Syria, Jordan and the USVI. We are scaling our approach wherever there is need.

What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Recognizing the acute limitations of humanitarian aid especially in remote and low resource areas, the founders of Field Ready came together with extensive qualifications and a deep passion for working on grand challenges. We were founded on a belief that the right application of appropriate and disruptive technology, coupled with a keen understanding of real-world problems can lead to profound and transformational breakthroughs.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Nepal innovation assistance

In April 2015, a severe earthquake struck the small mountainous country of Nepal leaving roughly 9,000 people dead and thousands displaced. Following on-the-ground assessments, we determined how Field Ready could best contribute to medium and long-term recovery, reconstruction and disaster risk reduction efforts and deployed in December of 2015 to meet ongoing challenges in health, water, shelter, and livelihoods faced by internally displaced people and others affected.

Population(s) Served
Adults

Field Ready’s aim is to save the lives and reduce suffering of innocent Syrians who are being targeted by indiscriminate attacks and who suffer from a complex set of problems while refugees. We do this by providing locally made tools and equipment and training makers to solve their own problems with the supplies they have

Population(s) Served
Adults

The Pacific Island nations are vulnerable to natural hazards such as tropical cyclones, pandemics and the increasing dangers of climate change. Our multi-pronged program, addresses these concerns through putting in place the capabilities of local manufacturing and empowerment. Working with local industry, we have made tens of thousands of useful items, trained makers and worked with a wide variety of partners to better be prepared for humanitarian concerns, particularly in areas such as water/sanitation (WASH) and health.

Population(s) Served

Field Ready responded at the first onset of the COVID-19 pandemic by sharing designs, making useful items (particularly PPE) and advocating key messages around an effective approach. This included distribution of tens of thousands of face masks/coverings, face shields and other items to lessen the transmission of airborne pathogens. This manufacturing and distribution occurred in roughly a half-dozen countries including the US. In time, our program focused on four countries: Bangladesh, Iraq, Kenya and Uganda. This program continues and has helped hundreds of thousands of people.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

To meet humanitarian need by transforming logistics through technology, design and engaging people in new ways.

Assess: We take extra care in understanding the situation and those we work with. In the process, we develop deep understanding and empathy that allows us to work toward practical and sustainable solutions together.

Design:
Using an iterative process, we take into consideration both technology and how people can benefit from its proper use. We work closely with end users where they live and work to ensure viable impact.

Make:
We quickly deploy experienced people and the right technology so that genuine needs can be met regardless of the sector or challenge faced. We possess the capacity to meet unique needs and then take that to scale.

Share:
Timely distribution is the essential element of an effective supply chain and this represents one of our key advantages. We not only share the items we fix and make but also the knowledge that has been used through long experience. We do this through training and other capacity-building measures.

Lead:
By pioneering our approach, we have been able to set the example for others to follow. We do so with humility and with partnership in mind. For this reason, contributing to improving our field is a key indicator of our success.

Field Ready was founded by professionals in development aid and humanitarian relief, technical services, design and engineering. Our combined experiences totals many decades in developing countries and disaster-stricken areas as well as various technical skills. Taking hard earned lessons from places like the Horn of Africa and Central Asia, we've borrowed from the best of Silicon Valley to conceive a meaningful and transformational approach to the challenges of humanitarian relief and working in the most remote and challenging places on the planet.

Field Ready has successfully scaled our approach to a number of countries. We have designed and manufactured thousands of parts for health, WASH, search and rescue and trained hundreds of people in our approach. We continue to scale our approach to new countries.
