Helping Homeless Animals
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
We aim to end animal suffering, homelessness, and pet overpopulation. We’re a small, local shelter that is dedicated to saving lives. We rescue pets from hoarding cases, neglect and abuse cases, and puppy mills. We work to save thousands of lives every year, and maintain a 99% save rate.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Pet Adoption and Sheltering
Nashville Humane found homes for 3500 pets in 2021 and had a 99.5% save rate for animals in our care.
Community Outreach & Spay / Neuter
Rover, our “Big Yellow Bus,” travels throughout Davidson and surrounding counties to provide spay and neuter services to shelters and rescues that lack the resources in an effort to decrease the number of unwanted animals.
Safety Net
In 2020, Nashville Humane began a new community-driven mission that focuses on both pets and their pet-owning people. So, we’re dedicating ourselves toward being a Safety Net for our community, and helping ensure that families have the resources and information they need to keep their pets in their homes, and out of shelters.
Humane Education
NHA personnel travel throughout Davidson County teaching the responsibilities of pet ownership and humane treatment for all animals. We also schedule group tours of our facility, educating people on NHA’s various roles in the community.

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
We aim to keep people and pets together by creating programming that supports the bond of people and animals.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We work to advocate for homeless, sick, injured, and abused animals regardless of their breed, age, or medical condition. We are committed to saving as many lives as possible through collaborative partnerships, affordable community services, emergency intake and disaster assistance.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
NHA is supported by over 2,000 fosters and volunteers that donate time and energy to every pet we save. NHA plays an active role in animal welfare legislation and engages our community to promote the protection of animals. NHA is a proud member of the SAFE Coalition; a group of multiple local animal welfare organizations working collaboratively to serve more animals and combat pet homelessness in Davidson County.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Throughout the years, a commitment to thinking “outside of the kennel” has led to countless first-of-their-kind programs, services, education and communication techniques that have been replicated by organizations all over the world. This unique and thoughtful approach will ensure our focus is on our mission to rescue, shelter, heal, adopt and advocate for animals in need and provide compassionate care for the sick and injured animals who rely on us.
