What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Exhibitions
Monthly exhibitions feature visual artists of local, national, and international renown, that place Artspace on the cutting edge of the artistic scene in Richmond. Visual artists submit exhibition proposals that are juried by an exhibition committee selected from artist members of the gallery. Exhibitions are awarded after stringent review, which assures that the exhibited work is of high quality and consistent with the mission of the organization. These criteria are also applied to members of the organization, who wish to exhibit their work in the gallery. Members also have the opportunity to exhibit collectively in group exhibitions and off-site in business locations around the city.
Partnerships and Programming
Artspace’s Programming and Partnerships Committee actively seeks opportunities to exhibit the artwork of our member artists at local and regional locations such as office buildings, restaurants and other public establishments. The gallery also offers curations of other organizations’ artwork and offers the use of our Elisabeth Flynn-Chapman gallery for exhibitions by schools, community groups and other nonprofits.
Performances
Artspace supports local performing artists through the use of our gallery space for performances of music, drama, comedy and poetry at gallery openings or events specific to the performances. Slam Richmond Poetry group meets monthly on the first Saturday of each month providing a writer's workshop and open mic. Starting in 2023, Artspace will host a monthly musical performance series.
