Individual Assistive Technology Services

Children and adults who have disabilities or functional limitations discover and choose technology solutions, find resources to acquire needed technology, and learn how to use it to meet their needs in daily life.

Population(s) Served

ChildTech Discovery Programs include: ToyTech,a service providing switch assessments to determine an appropriate switch and switch site for a child with a disability to use to play with a toy, and assistance in selecting toys and switch software that are appropriate for the child’s developmental needs. A child’s own toys may be adapted to make them accessible, and training for parents and professionals about adapting toys for switch access and accessible interactive play activities is offered; TechLibrary provides adapted toys, switches, and  hardware and software for “try it before you buy it” opportunities for parents as well as for teachers and other professionals; SchoolTech,a consultative program designed to support teachers and assistive technology teams working within the schools; and TechAssessments, An individual technology service designed to assist children, their family members, and teachers to evaluate and choose assistive technology solutions.

Population(s) Served

These middle Tennessee services are aligned with services of 4 other assistive technology centers in the state. They are part of a coordinated statewide system of technology related services for individuals with disabilities including: assistive technology device demonstration, loan, & reutilization; training in assistive technology; and collaboration and public awareness activities to enhance assistive technology services for individuals with disabilities.
