We provide the highest quality representation for our clients, at least as good but arguably better than they would receive from a retained attorney, and in a manner that respects the individual worth of the person.

We work to obtain the right kind and level of resources for the lawyers who perform the work of our mission, through maintaining good relationships with our funding sources and other stakeholders.

We provide training for our employees, always keeping an awareness of the industry standards for both pay and benefit levels and caseload standards in the legal industry.

Our 15-member Board of Trustees provides oversight and policy decisions for our staff and its operations. Our current staffing is at 20 full-time lawyers in four locations and six contract lawyers for a fifth location.

Our administrative staff is small but diverse in its talents, handling the resource-gathering, financial and technology functions for all operations.

We will continue to provide services under existing contracts and expand our services where needed. We will successfully translate our need for resources to community stakeholders and funding sources and provide adequate funds to hire and retain highly qualified employees. We will articulate and support needed reforms in the justice system that will benefit our client case.

We have hired and retained lawyers with passion and skill for the types of cases we handle. We have not always been able to control their workloads. For this reason, our representation has been limited and not as holistic as we would prefer.

We have established and maintain a high level of competence in organizational finances and compliance issues. We have not consistently translated that competence into secure contractual relationships with the courts where we work.

We have provided the minimum levels of technology to our staff, but we would like to provide cutting-edge equipment and training that is trouble-free and efficient.

Organizational Demographics

In order to support nonprofits and gain valuable insight for the sector, GuideStar worked with D5—a five-year initiative to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in philanthropy—in creating a questionnaire. This section is a voluntary questionnaire that empowers organizations to share information on the demographics of who works in and leads organizations. To protect the identity of individuals, we do not display sexual orientation or disability information for organizations with fewer than 15 staff. Any values displayed in this section are percentages of the total number of individuals in each category (e.g. 20% of all Board members for X organization are female).
