What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Habitat Restoration, Clean it Up, Scenic Blueway
Clean it Up-
The Litter Trap system combines litter barriers and traps to prevent the flow
of litter from the urban creeks into Dog River. The system requires fundraising
to purchase the traps and a volunteer commitment to maintain and clear the
traps. DRCR has raised enough money to install one Bandalong Litter Trap,
additional funding is being requested to add additional litter traps and fund a
position to maintain the traps throughout the year.
Scenic
Blueway The Dog River Scenic Blueway is a partnership formed through
National Park Service Rivers Trails and Conservation Assistance Grant . Through
two years of dedicated work the partnership developed a Master Workbook that
can be downloaded, http://www.dogriver.org/dog-river-scenic-blueway1.html(http://www.dogriver.org/dog-river-scenic-blueway1html)
Funding has been secured to begin signing the Blueway. Further funding is
sought to complete the signage and to develop launch sites along the Dog River
Watershed.
Habitat
Restoration : Professionals and volunteers focus on restoring emergent
fresh and saltwater wetlands, planting riparian buffers to improve shoreline
erosion and sediment removal, and improving impaired water quality. Transplanting submerged aquatic vegetation
for the West Indian manatees’ and red bellied turtles’ habitat by restoring and
protecting endangered native species.
Volunteers will continue to restore storm water runoff impacting aquatic
food.
