Education breaks the cycle of poverty.
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Education is the key to a brighter future, yet children and youth around the world face barriers to education every day. These barriers vary greatly depending on a child's sex, socioeconomic status, and geographic location, and breaking them down requires us to listen to and empower local leaders at the grassroots level. By identifying and empowering these kinds of changemakers, we believe it is possible to create long lasting change in some of the world's hardest to reach regions.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Recycled Materials Art Competition
The objective of this competition is to promote recycling and reuse of materials, emphasizing creativity and innovation, in line with California’s goals to keep 75% of waste out of landfills by the year 2020. The competition is an opportunity for the sharing of information on recycling in Marin County, public awareness raising, and expression of creativity.
Mini-grants for the purchase of art supplies are awarded to winning teachers/classrooms. The contest commences in March and concludes with an awards ceremony in May.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Every child should have access to high quality primary, secondary, and tertiary education. Our goal is to make it possible for all children, especially those in underserved and resource-lacking communities, to attain high quality education and step into their full potential. In doing our part to strengthen education, we aim to help the global community achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
We believe that we are able to have deeper impact when working together, and look for ways to build coalitions to strengthen education. PaperSeed exists to connect local community-based organizations, CellMark, business partners, social entrepreneurs and volunteers to build solutions.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We believe the best way to improve education is through collaboration with the public and private sectors. PaperSeed is at its best when we are helping to connect businesses with grassroots NGOs and dynamic community leaders. By leveraging our connections in both the business and nonprofit worlds, we can empower large-scale education projects and solutions.
We guarantee the long-term success of our projects through good research and project-design, and hope to inspire more partners to join us in strengthening education in their own communities, and across the world.
By providing corporate employees with ways to get involved, we bring our commitment to connection and change full circle.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Our dynamic partnership with CellMark has opened doors for us to connect with other businesses and help them establish giving and corporate social responsibility programs. These partnerships come both in the form of generous financial donations to established projects and in-kind donations to make our large-scale girls' health and dignity project in Kenya a success. Further, our commitment to projects with long-term sustainability ensure that donor funds create the greatest return on investment.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
To date, PaperSeed has impacted over half a million children, and we are well on our way to a million. We are continuing to build connections with relevant education stakeholders while striving to seek out and amplify the voices of local leaders. Our strategic focus on girls' education promises to accelerate our progress, as girls are overwhelmingly disenfranchised from education in the developing world.
