What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Children with severe communication and physical disabilities are not achieving their highest potential. There are three barriers limiting their success. 1) Low expectations for students that can not speak or demonstrate what they know; 2) Lack of specialized skills required of teachers and therapists working with them; and 3) Lack of resources, like tools for assessment and special equipment.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

1. By raising awareness of the underestimated potential of these children, New Voices will change the low expectations to a presumption of competence and promote inclusion.
2. Provide training to teachers and therapists so they are equipped to help them find a voice and demonstrate what they know.
3. Improve access to equipment by providing equipment and other resources where needed.

By working with five area school districts and other like-minded organizations, New Voices raises money for several programs to accomplish our goals.
1) Scholarship program for trainings
2) Sponsorships for conferences and trainings
3) Grants for equipment and other resources
4) Lara Jane Parker Awards to reward and encourage excellence
5) Events to increase awareness of the capabilities of New Voices children

New Voices' programs are adjusted annually to match our financial capabilities. We do not provide direct services but work to improve the skills and capabilities of others. The more money we have, the more we can do.

1) Over 95% of everyone that has attended a training has reported an improvement of their skills.
2) Over 95% of everyone that has attended an event aimed at increasing awareness of these children's underestimated potential has reported a change of perception of their capabilities.
3) No direct measurement has been made in their area yet.
