What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Thunder Road's treatment approach is a hybrid of philosophies from social model, therapeutic community, Medical Model, adolescent development, and 12-Step programs. Thunder Road is the only northern California program operating with dual licensure as a Chemical Dependency Recovery Hospital through the California Department of Health Services and as a Group Home by the California Department of Social Services.

The Hospital Track offers an intensive 30- to 50-day residential program, serving primarily private pay clients and those whose treatment is covered by insurance. Teens remanded by the juvenile justice system or county social services generally enter the Group Home Track, with a residential range of 6 to 12 months. Thunder Road's 50 beds are allocated to each treatment track to accommodate the changing demands of this wide-ranging referral network. Annually, 300 to 340 adolescents from 24 northern California counties are admitted. Thunder Road counselors are thoroughly trained in addiction issues and are part of a multi-disciplinary team that includes licensed psychiatrists, therapists, doctors, nurses, and other clinical staff. Services offered include:
* Assessment & Screening
* Information & Referral Services
* Outreach Services
* Short-term Inpatient Program
* Long-Term Inpatient Program
* Outpatient Services
- Intensive Outpatient Program
- Continuing Care Program
- Juvenile Justice Programs
Thunder Road provides separate facilities for boys and girls, ensuring gender specific residential treatment for clients. On-site educational services are offered through Oakland Unified School District with individual planning for college preparation and community service activities. Staff treats behavioral, mental health, and substance abuse problems, employing accepted "best practices" to help young clients face their issues head on. Staff incorporates gender specific educational programming, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, relapse prevention, anger management, trauma intervention, and professional mental health services into care plans, and Thunder Road utilize therapists, psychiatrists and clinicians as part of the treatment team. A specific plan is designed for each individual, and program length is variable.
