Mission

Contra Costa Midrasha provides a safe space for Jewish teens to explore their identity and expand their base of Jewish knowledge in a non-denominational setting. Our primary goal at CCM is connection. In today's world, teens don't have a lot of time to connect about the big issues in life - how to connect with each other in healthy relationships, how to connect to their dreams and how to connect with their own sense of spirituality. CCM provides the time and space (weekly on Wednesday nights from 7-9pm and at three retreat weekends a year) for teens to connect about these issues - to have those conversations with each other, face to face, facilitated by caring Jewish adults who know how to draw the lines of connection - making Jewish values relevant to today's Jewish teens. CCM teens come from the cities and areas along the 680 corridor of the SF Bay Area.

Population(s) Served

CCM's primary leadership programming for teens is all about arming teens with an ability to do "tikkun olam" or to repair the world. The Teen Tikkun Olam Philanthropy Board aims to teach philanthropy through service learning. Teens participating in this program learn about fundraising and the Jewish values around giving. As a group, the teens pick an annual mission to support, they learn how to fundraise by doing it, and then disburse their raised funds to organizations whose work supports their chosen mission.

Population(s) Served

Contra Costa Midrasha's primary program is its Wednesday night classes, meeting from 7:15 - 9:15pm each night during the school year. This serves 8-12th graders in our community - featuring Jewish-themed workshops and electives inspired and informed by what happening in our teen's lives and the larger world around us.
