What we aim to solve
Our home-based Satellite Care Centers currently intake and care for over 500 injured mammals and raptors throughout the year. Many of these animals have become injured or orphaned due to habitat destruction or human negligence. Mammal species we work with include squirrel, opossum, jackrabbit, raccoon, fawn, fox, mice, skunk, bat and pocket gopher. Raptors include merlin, kestrel, red tail hawk, red shouldered hawk, kite, northern pygmy owl, great horned owl, barn owl, burrowing owl, and turkey vulture. Throughout the year, hundreds of these birds and mammals are returned to the wild following the specialized care of Napa Wildlife Rescue volunteer rehabilitators. The Songbird Clinic (SBC) is Napa Wildlife Rescue’s program dedicated to the rehabilitation of songbirds. It operates during the spring and summer months. Every year, the SBC handles over 500 songbirds of many different species, from hatchlings to nestlings, to fledglings, to adults.

Napa County Wildlife Rescue, Rehabilitaton and Release

Goals & Strategy
Learn about the organization's key goals, strategies, capabilities, and progress.
Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
We support and advocate for wildlife through:
Rehabilitation
Education
Community Outreach and Partnerships
In this way, we are able to promote sustainable and healthy eco-systems in Napa County for present and future generations alike.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
In addition to operating our rehab clinic and community educational events, 2019 is the year that we have launched our social media education and advocacy campaign. Everything that will be shared through social media will increase the worth of Napa Wildlife Rescue as an organization that is vital to the health of our region. By strengthening our relationships and stories through social media, we will begin to build a path back to the website that will capture more supporters who are inspired to donate, volunteer, and who will be better informed about their role in the eco-system of Napa County. Additionally, we are increasing our revenues while decreasing the use of rodenticides by launching Napa County's first Barn Owl Box Program.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
By working with our staff, board of directors and independent contractors we are partnering with like minded organizations and community leaders to reach our goals.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We have increased our online presence which has impact on two levels. First, it drives people to our website where they can support us financially or by volunteering time. Secondly, we are able to use social media as a tool to cultivate followers who are knowledgeable and connected to the native wildlife that inhabits Napa County.
We have launched the first ever Barn Owl Maintenance Program in Napa County.
We continue to be the only Wildlife Rescue that is licensed through the California
Department of Fish and Wildlife to possess and provide temporary care for sick, orphaned, or injured
California wildlife pursuant to Section 679, Title 14, Code of Regulations (CCR) in Napa County. Additionally, we are permitted through the US Department of the Interior, Fish and Wildlife Division to rehabilitate migratory birds.
