Environmental Justice For Every Child In Every School

aka Go Green Initiative   |   Pleasanton, CA   |  www.gogreeninitiative.org

Mission

The Go Green Initiative works together with schools to protect children from adverse environmental conditions, secure access to nutritious food, and conserve natural resources for the future. Through education, training, and strategic support for schools and school districts, the GGI delivers measurable student wellness and improved academic outcomes while cultivating the next generation of environmental stewards. The GGI advances equity by directing its resources to communities that are disproportionately harmed by environmental injustice.

School District Sustainability Plan

The Go Green Initiative consults with school districts to develop comprehensive sustainability strategies addressing indoor environmental factors. We work closely with district leadership and school stakeholders to design and implement custom solutions for their unique needs and priorities. Our free services guide districts in developing their action plans, programs, and practices to ensure environmental health, safety, and efficiency across departments and facilities.

The Go Green Initiative guides districts and schools in managing their utilities sustainably and cost-efficiently. We work with school districts to collect, interpret, and make use of data to optimize indoor environmental quality and resource efficiency across facilities. This includes coaching effective use of Energy Star Portfolio Manager, a resource management tool from the EPA. Together with our strategic support, this service empowers districts to track their energy, water, and waste consumption and identify opportunities to reduce utility costs and environmental impacts.

Through the GGI’s annual summer internship program, high school and college students pursue high-impact projects in environmental policy and infrastructure. The GGI Academy supports our district and student programs with instructor-led and self-paced online training modules for sustainability skillsets. Courses and certification programs are available for districts, school staff, and individuals to enhance their knowledge and skills in support of environmental projects in their schools and communities. Training areas are being expanded and include data tracking, Energy Star Portfolio Manager, and solid waste reduction.
