Free Legal Help in Civil Cases

Our firm provides free legal assistance in civil cases. We do not charge our clients for our services, which are funded by grants, contracts, and donations. Generally, the cases we work on are in the areas of consumer, education, employment, family, juvenile, health, housing, income maintenance, individual rights, wills and estates.

Each year, we get about 15,000 calls from people in need of legal help. Because our funding limits the amount of staff we can hire, we can help at most 30% of those eligible callers. This year, for example, we will take about 8,300 applications and close about 7,100 cases in matters ranging from simple counsel and advice; brief services; negotiations; representation in administrative proceedings; and trials in city court, state district court, U.S. District Court and courts of appeal.
