Mission

The United States Blind Golf Association (USBGA) is an organization for blind and visually impaired (B&VI) individuals to learn, compete and challenge other B&VI members to the game of golf. Golf tournaments and clinics are held throughout the year. The USBGA strives to increase public awareness of B&VI golf by conducting youth and adult clinics across the country that teach blind, visually impaired individuals and anyone else with challenges to learn the skills, values, social aspects and opportunities that golfing provides.

What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Since the United States Blind Golf Association (USBGA) is a small nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization, our principal need is to increase our membership on a national level. Our belief is by holding more Regional Tournaments (smaller golf events), they will increase our exposure to the local communities and inspire blind and vision impaired (B&VI) individuals to learn the game of golf. Our two methods of scoring allows for those who seek a competitive game and those who just want to play golf with other B&VI members. We believe this approach will increase our membership and allow everyone to play. In addition, our junior and adult inclusive clinics will have a positive effect for the adults and children participating and we believe they will serve to increase our future membership and expose more fund raising opportunities.

With the sponsorship from the City of Waltham, MA , the Waltham Recreation Department, the USBGA and NEPGA Adaptive Golf Pro Bob Beach, we conduct junior golf clinics for anyone who wants to learn golf. A beautiful putting and chipping center was built to honor Joe Lazaro, a blind golf champion who advocated that anyone of any ability can learn to play golf, they may just have to do it in a different way.
The clinics are conducted throughout the year at the putting center in Waltham's Cornelia Warren Park and at Leo J Martin Golf Course in Weston, MA.
Two Spring 4-week sessions for juniors beginning April 2023

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Our goals for the next twelve months include; growing our Junior/adult clinics, extending our community outreach programs and increasing attendance at our regional tournaments.

Our strategy for our Junior Golf and Community Outreach programs parallel one another. Efforts are being made to establish partnerships locally with nationally recognized brands that we can develop into a national program. We are also developing a training program for volunteers interested in learning how to teach and coach junior blind and visually impaired golfers. Our efforts to grow our membership also involve these strategic national partnerships to offer lessons to visually impaired adults who may want to learn the game of golf. We feel by also getting new adults involved this will strategically grow our membership with a more immediate affect. Our junior golf program is a way of cultivating membership for years to come. Our membership fundraising incentive program, will grow local support where our members live and work.

We recently received a generous donation that will allow us to fund our regional tournaments and expand our junior/adult inclusive golf clinics, training programs for golfers and coaches and supporting other out reach programs.

We have established partnerships with organizations that align with our values to further develop our programs. Nationally we are looking to improve our outreach and knowledge of our organization. We are working on our adult golfer and coach training programs with plans to continue in 2021. We hope this program will be implemented fully by the end of the 2021. Our Junior inclusive programs are developing well.
