What we aim to solve
Over 20% of our service area lives in poverty. Over 200 people in the community are in need of emergency housing services due to homelessness. Many people report not having the job skills necessary to get the jobs they need. Many businesses report not having the level of employees that they need. People cannot survive on making $10 an hour. People cannot afford the inflated rental rates resulting in increased homelessness.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
We aim to improve the quality of life of people in our service area in the areas of health, education and financial stability.
Health: Promoting the overall health of our community by:
- Improving access to healthcare services.
- Promoting healthy lifestyles.
- Offering options for mental health care and addiction treatment.
- Ensuring safety from domestic violence.
Education: We are helping children and adults achieve their potential by:
- Ensuring access to quality programs which prepare children for school and learning.
- Helping to fund programs that teach young people and adults positive life skills.
- Helping students maintain or improve grade point averages and stay in school.
Financial Stability: We are ensuring greater financial security and success by:
- Meeting basic needs like immediate shelter, food and utility payments.
- Providing job training and placement that can lead to living-wage level employment.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We work with local businesses, coalitions, organizations and community members to identify the most daunting social crisis in our community. We then work to create solutions to these needs by either partnering with already existing programs , funding existing programs or starting our own programs to meet those needs.
We are looking for ways to expand our annual fundraising campaign so that we can help fund more programs and ensure that we are all having the most impact possible for the good of our community.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Ada Regional United Way is uniquely poised to provide a "big-picture" assessment of how all the nonprofits in our area are working together and utilizing the limited resources available to the best of their ability. Having over 75 years of good standing in the community means that people easily trust us and know that we are working for the best interests of the community as a whole.
We have long-standing partnerships with community leaders, businesses, coalitions, organizations, and agencies. We are able to bring together stakeholders from across all aspects of our community to work together to improve the lives of every person in our service area.
We have an annual fundraising campaign that is currently bringing in over $230,000 annually. With many outlying areas of our service area not being solicited for partnership in the past, we feel we have a prime opportunity to bring in new donors and programs to serve even more people in our community.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We maintain 15-20 programs funded through our annual fundraising campaign. One of our internal programs is our Charity Tracker System. This program allows us to provide shared case management with over 80 active agencies in the system. We are able to track services rendered to clients in our service area and how often they need these services.
We have been able to change the conversation when a client comes into an agency, from, "How can we help you?" to "How can we help you not have to come back next month." We are moving the needle from dependency on programs to self-sufficiency.
As we move forward we are looking at hiring another staff member to help take on some of the community coordinator work and give our Executive Director more time to help develop relationships with current donors and partners. This will also allow the Executive Director to begin focusing on bringing in new donors, businesses, and partners.

- We review compensation data across the organization (and by staff levels) to identify disparities by race.
- We disaggregate data to adjust programming goals to keep pace with changing needs of the communities we support.
- We employ non-traditional ways of gathering feedback on programs and trainings, which may include interviews, roundtables, and external reviews with/by community stakeholders.

- We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
- We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
