Wish Granting Program

The power of our Wish Granting Program lies in its simplicity: we grant magical wishes for children who are living with life-threatening medical conditions. In carrying out this mission, we are guided by our belief that: A life can be measured in memories, not just years, and that children living with life-threatening medical conditions deserve to experience a bright oasis of happiness and normalcy, particularly during uncertain times. There are three simple requirements for participation: The child must be between 2 ½ and 18 years of age. The child’s physician certifies that the child has a life-threatening medical condition, as determined by medical criteria set forth by MAWFA. The child has not received a wish from Make-A-Wish or any other wish-granting organization. Assuming that this criteria has been been met, Make-A-Wish will then proceed with granting a wish only after receiving permission from the parents.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Make-A-Wish Oklahoma's vision is simple - to grant a wish for every eligible child in Oklahoma. Through awareness and fundraising efforts, any child facing life-threatening illness should know they can count on receiving their one-true wish when they need it the most.

Make-A-Wish Oklahoma strives to grant the wishes of every medically eligible child across our state to bring them hope, strength and joy in the healing process. We accomplish this by medical outreach in communities large and small to educate medical professionals on our mission. Educating these medical professionals will enable our organization to connect with the children who can benefit from our program.
We are able to grant wishes with the generous support of individuals, corporations, foundations and special event fundraising.

Recently, Make-A-Wish conducted a Wish Impact Study to determine the effects of wishes received quantitative measures of the breadth and depth of the impact of our mission. The results revealed that the wish experience extends far beyond the wish child, reaching all those exposed to the wish granting activities.
A combined 89% of doctors, nurses and health professionals surveyed say they believe a wish experience can influence wish kids' physical health.
99% of parents reported that the wish experience gave their children increased feelings of happiness and 96% said the wish experience strengthened their families.
95% of community volunteers reported an increased sense of compassion and 84% felt an increased faith in humanity.

Founded in 1982, Make-A-Wish Oklahoma has granted the wishes of over 2,800 wishes in Oklahoma. Thanks to the generous and compassionate supporters of our mission, on average, our organization grants between 150-200 wishes to Oklahoma children each year. Yet, according to studies, each year upwards of 340 children and their families residing in Oklahoma will receive the news that their child has been diagnosed with conditions that make them eligible for a wish. Make-A-Wish Oklahoma has a clear, strategic vision to grant every eligible child's wish, and to do so we must 'fund the gap" between the number of wishes granted and the number of children diagnosed/referred each year.
