What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Individual and Group Counseling
The Grief Center provides individual counseling sessions, family counseling sessions, and couples counseling sessions with professional counselors to anyone in need (ages 4 and up) throughout Northeast Oklahoma. Services are provided at The Grief Center clinic, and no one is ever turned away for an inability to pay. Individuals and families can pay through insurance or on an income based sliding scale. Scholarships are also available to cover the cost of counseling sessions for anyone who cannot afford the sliding scale fees.
The Grief Center also provides professional group counseling and workshops open to the community. Groups are loss-specific (Ex: Spouse Loss, Child Loss, Survivors of Suicide Loss, Pregnancy and Infant Loss), placing people who have had similar losses into groups together to create a safe space for sharing stories and emotions, as well as increase the bonding between group members. Loss specific groups are open to everyone in need, ages 18+. Workshops are open to the community. Some workshops are for adults only, and some are open to all ages.
The Grief Center also provides group experiences for families and children at no cost. Family Group is provided to families of all shapes and sizes, and Healing Hearts Club is a group just for kids and teens. Both are facilitated by professional grief counselors.
Grief Outreach and Intervention Program
The Grief Center provides outreach services in the community in addition to the services provide in the clinic. These services include the Crisis Response Team, which deploys professional grief counselors to the sites of local tragedies and enables them to provides assistance immediately, as well as remaining on-site through the following weeks. Other services include groups for all ages, and workshops, all facilitated by professional grief counselors. Grief Outreach and Intervention Programs are provided at no cost to schools and other nonprofit agencies, and for a small fee to for-profit organizations.
Community Engagement and Education Program
The Grief Center provides engagement and education opportunities for communities across Northeast Oklahoma. This includes offering Continuing Education Seminars to local area mental health professionals, equipping them with the skills to immediately assist bereaved, and enable them to find the right help quickly. This also includes local speaking engagements and other community involvement.
Camp Erin Tulsa
Camp Erin Tulsa is part of the largest national bereavement program for youth who are grieving the death of a significant person in their lives. Children and teens ages 6 to 17 attend a weekend camp experience that combines grief education and emotional support with fun, traditional camp activities. Led by bereavement professionals and caring volunteers, campers are provided a safe environment to explore their grief, learn essential coping skills, and make friends with peers who are also grieving. Additional services are offered to support the whole family outside of the camp weekend. Through a network of partnerships with bereavement programs in local communities across the US and Canada, Camp Erin brings hope and healing to thousands of children and families annually and is offered at no cost to families.

Last updated: 10/18/2022GuideStar partnered with Equity in the Center - an organization that works to shift mindsets, practices, and systems to increase racial equity - to create this section. Learn more
- We review compensation data across the organization (and by staff levels) to identify disparities by race.
- We ask team members to identify racial disparities in their programs and / or portfolios.
- We disaggregate data to adjust programming goals to keep pace with changing needs of the communities we support.
- We disaggregate data by demographics, including race, in every policy and program measured.
- We have long-term strategic plans and measurable goals for creating a culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
- We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
- We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
- We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
- We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
