Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Impoverished people face barriers to opportunity that must be addressed from multiple angles. These barriers build on themselves when communities are lacking in education, nurture and family, spiritual maturity, equal opportunity in the workplace, and options for growth. We are looking at poverty in all of it's complexity, and addressing it by impacting the whole person, in each generation, not just addressing their physical needs.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Makarios School
Makarios’ PRIMARY FOCUS is our school, Colegio Makarios, serving kids from three communities.
We also offer HEALTH and EDUCATION PROGRAMS for their families and neighbors in the villages, including English classes in the summer, medical and dental clinics once a year, and sports programs in the summer.
While at school, the kids receive TWO MEALS, a vitamin, and clean water. We have medical care available for each child including daily care from our physician assistant at the school, necessary medication, and doctor visits if needed. A group of American dentists partner with us to provide regular care of our students’ dental needs. The Sponsorship Program is what allows our school to function. The majority of our school expenses are covered by the sponsorship fund.
Family Empowerment
Launched in February 2017, our Family Empowerment Program is focused on the families of students at the Makarios School. We raise up local leaders by empowering them with the tools they need to help themselves including education, spiritual development, & counseling services. This program exists to have families transformed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ and parents that are ethical leaders, capable of influencing their communities.
Group Ministry
Our church partners and sponsors travel from all over the United States to take part in Ministry Trips, week week long trips for our partner churches. These trips enable us to bridge the gap of cultures while we educate, connect, and build relationships between local Haitian and Dominican leaders. In the process, we produce mission-minded Christ followers who are inspired to serve locally and globally.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
We want to see communities serve Jesus Christ while working to end generational poverty.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
1. We know we can't do it alone- We believe that relationships are key to radical change, and we operate out of that belief. Our teachers model Christ centered relationships in their classrooms and with their co-workers, our staff pursues the families of our students, and we create as many opportunities as possible for people in the in the United States to build real relationships through sponsorship.
2. We set goals - We have created a 3 year plan to grow our ministry, while maintaining the excellence we've worked hard to reach. Within this plan, we have outlined key growth factors including a new school building to accommodate all students k-12, hiring quality local and missionary teachers, and fundraising needs to make these dreams possible. Our weekly and daily goals align to support our larger goals.
3. We do not expect to solve a complex issue with simple solutions- We are addressing the problem of generational poverty in the holistic sense including physical, spiritual, intellectual, and emotional poverty. We are impacting 2-3 generations within the same family by through the Makarios School and our Family Empowerment program.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We have seen a 49% revenue increase in the last 4 years, and we are confident that this number will only grow. Our goal is to steward all of our resources well- finances, gifts, time, and resources. We are anticipating growth and planning according to the growth we see coming. We have a strong local staff that is well funded through our sponsorship program. We have multiple established partner churches and organizations in the US that provide support and resources as we grow.
Our staff is dedicated and committed to the mission.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We provide an excellent Christian education, medical, dental, and have served over 80,000 meals this year for the students in our communities. The Makarios school is educating 165 students, ages 3-15, with a goal to graduate students who are disciples of Jesus Christ, who are empowered, and who are equipped to confront the challenges of life.
Over 300 people have traveled from the United States to the DR to participate and witness what God is doing in the communities Makarios serves. This means that over 300 people have experienced a heart transformation they will take to their local communities.
We have raised almost a quarter of the total cost of building our new school! We are excited to have reached this goal and we are ready to continue to share the dream with the Mak Family.
Building the school helps us to continue growing at our current rate and realize the dream of seeing our students graduate from the Makarios School. in addition, the new building will give us a new entrance onto the property, making it easier to accommodate for the crowds of kids to walk in.
Moving forward, we are adding a grade on each year until we reach our first graduating high school class, and will build out our school to accommodate for the growth. We will have a deeper impact on the families of our students, and increase the number of mission-minded individuals produced through our Group Ministry program.
