BROWNSVILLE SOCIETY FOR CRIPPLED CHILDREN INCORPORATED
The Leading Outpatient Rehabilitative Clinic in our Community
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Children with special needs are one of the most marginalized and disadvantaged groups of children, enduring widespread injustices of their rights. Too often, children with diagnosed development delays are judged by abilities they lack rather than ones they have. Further compounded by poverty and lack of services and support, children with Autism, Down Syndrome, Spina Bifida and other special needs are prevented from joining the community as active participants. Moody Clinic staff knows firsthand the daily struggles families experience when finding the right care for their child with disabilities. The organization's compassion for helping children in Cameron County and knowledge in outpatient rehabilitative therapy has changed the lives of hundreds of patients since 1952.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Rehabilitative Services to Children with Special Needs
The program focuses on providing speech/language, physical and occupational therapy to children with diagnosed developmental delays, disabilities or acquired injuries ages birth to twenty one years old. We provide services to children who have no health insurance or third party reimbursement, patients who have exhausted their health insurance coverage for therapy sessions, and/or patients who cannot afford the full or partial cost of treatment. We have a sliding scale in place and accept all forms of insurance.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Moody Clinic goal is to accomplish its mission of providing the highest quality of rehabilitative therapy to maximize the potential of children with special needs by providing affordable access to care to those who need it the most.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Licensed therapists on staff provide 2-6, 30-minute sessions to patients each week, based on initial evaluation results and what is needed for patient's maximum progress. Through speech therapy, patients increase articulation, coordination of speech muscles, sound repetition and imitation, communication between the brain and the body, receptive and expressive language skills. Patients increase range of motion, strength, endurance, balance, coordination and mobility skills to enhance function through physical therapy. Patients improve fine motor skills, sensory processing, feeding, self-care, and play/social skills to enhance development and carry out daily life activities through occupational therapy.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Our organization's capabilities for carrying out our goals lies with a staff of licensed therapists. Those include:

She holds a license to practice in the State of Texas and has a Certificate of Clinical Competency issued by the American Speech Language Hearing Association.
Denise Garcia, speech language pathologist, has 17 years of experience in her field. Her expertise includes bilingualism and treating feeding disorders. She has worked previously at Mercy Kids Rehabilitation, Mercy Home Health, Niskers Pediatric Rehabilitation, Just for Kids and the Fort Worth Independent School District. What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Moody Clinic has provided treatment to more than 7,000 children since its inception in 1952. As the only nonprofit outpatient rehabilitative clinic in the Rio Grande Valley, staff helps fill in a gap in the community and provides a unique service. More than 5,000 treatments are provided each year to children who would go untreated.
