DAEDALIAN FOUNDATION
Inspiring Tomorrow's Military Aviators
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Our mission is to support education and flying training programs that strengthen those who will serve our nation. There are few students who fully qualify to serve as military aviators. Many face financial difficulties, lack of flying experience and do not have role models/mentors to help guide them. We fill that need nation wide with over a 90% success rate in helping students go through the many steps of becoming a military officer to serve in a capacity that protects our nation at the highest level. The people we serve are the best and the brightest but need a lot of help to reach the goal of self-sacrifice for the greater good.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Matching Scholarships
The purpose of the Matching Scholarship Funds Program is to encourage Daedalian Flights to establish college and flight scholarships supporting the Objectives of the Order of Daedalians.
John and Alice Egan Multi-Year Scholarships
The Egan Multi-Year Mentoring Scholarship Program is for Flights willing to commit to a multi-year mentoring program with a maximum of four years for an individual student who has completed his freshman year. The Daedalian Foundation will supplement the local flight's $500 with at least $2,000 each year. (This scholarship is not tied to the Matching Program. It is an additional program and a student may compete for both programs.)
Descendants Scholarships
To further the Objectives of the Order of Daedalians insofar as assisting in the education of deserving young persons in the fields of aerospace engineering and flight, and encouraging those young people who receive valuable aerospace training to pursue a military career, the Daedalian Foundation has established a Descendants Scholarship Program for descendants of Daedalian members. The Foundation will award up to three (3) $2,000 scholarships annually to eligible students nominated by Daedalian Flights or submitted directly by the descendent and to the Scholarship Committee of the Daedalian Foundation. Additional awards may be made based upon availability of resources.
Daedalian Flight Training Program
The Colonel Les Leavoy and Brigadier General David Lee "Tex" Hill Scholarships are available to any flight participating in the Daedalian CFIP Program. The annual award(s) are funded from separate accounts within the Daedalian Foundation. The annual number of awards will be dependent on funds available from the ongoing interest and donation income.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our mission and our aim is to inspire our youth to serve in the military as aviators in any service. We also wish to celebrate student accomplishments as they travel the path towards their rated status. We do this through awards that start as citizenship awards at the high school level and end with top college and aviation training graduation awards.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
To inspire our youth, we start with programs at the Jr. High level. The Daedalians have partnered with Air Camp in Dayton, Ohio and the National Flight Academy in Pensacola, Florida to support students who go through STEM education as it relates to flight. At the high school level, students are eligible for our Daedalian Student Flight Training Program. This is a national program where retired and active duty military aviators mentor cadets through flight training up to the point of solo. At the college level, we offer many kinds of scholarship programs for those who wish to become a rated officer and have a financial need. Beyond college, we recognize top graduates at the Air Force Academy and Air University. For those who have made it through aviation training, the Daedalian Foundation recognizes top graduates of all services. Each level is designed to inspire and support those who wish to serve our country in a capacity that puts the nation's security and freedom first.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
The Daedalian Foundation receives much of its funding from members of the Daedalians organization. These are members who have served in the military aviation community and believe so strongly in what they have done to protect the US, that they donate to support for future generations who wish to serve. The need is great for military aviators. The foundation has financial reserves placing it in a position to continue its efforts for generations to come. Located on Randolph Air Force Base, the Daedalians stay active in air power issues and serve as great mentors for future generations. The greatest strength of the foundation is the high level of dedication from its donors. The programs are well established and highly successful.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Growing our donations continues to be a challenge as we move forward. There is an increasing interest in our programs which puts a continued strain on funding. With a 10 + history of the students completing the program, having academic successes and choosing the career path of a rated military officer, the program is supporting the mission of the Daedalian Foundation. Our strategic plan has set high goals for fund raising an program growth and we will continue to strive ti make greater progress towards our goals.

- We review compensation data across the organization (and by staff levels) to identify disparities by race.
- We have long-term strategic plans and measurable goals for creating a culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
- We use a vetting process to identify vendors and partners that share our commitment to race equity.
- We have a promotion process that anticipates and mitigates implicit and explicit biases about people of color serving in leadership positions.
- We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
- We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
- We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
