What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

CIH's oldest and most well known program is the 24-hour Crisis Hotline. Through Crisis Hotline we are also able to operate the Crisis Hotline Emergency Transportation (CHET) program, which transports women and children who are victims of domestic violence to shelters. Those in need of emergency mental health services can also use CHET to be transported to the nearest psychiatric center. Because CIH strives to meet the many needs of Houston's diverse communities, several specialized programs have developed over the years. In 1983 Survivors of Suicide (SOS, a support group for the family and friends of suicide victims, was established. In 1991 CIH launched the Spanish Hotline to welcome those callers who best express themselves in Spanish. This program has grown into a Hispanic Outreach Program, which strives to serve the Spanish speaking community of Houston through not only the hotline, but community outreach and education as well. In 1992, after 18 months of research to determine the needs of area teenagers, CIH implemented Teen line. Teen line allows teenagers to discuss their concerns anonymously with other teens or with adults trained to address teen issues. Teen line was expanded to include Teen link in 1999, which let's teens communicate via the Internet rather than the telephone in a private, one-on-one chat room. Teen line and Teen link are two of the five projects of the Youth Outreach Program.
