Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Outpatient Substance Use Disorder and Mental Health Counseling

Outpatient groups offer counseling, education, and peer support to those individuals who desire to continue their mental health and substance use dual recovery. Clients will learn about addiction and recovery as well as developing coping skills through our evidence-based recovery curriculum. An introduction to a 12-Step Program is included. The normal length of outpatient treatment is designed to last from three to four months (approximately 14 group sessions and 6 individual counseling sessions) transitioning from the intensive phase to a supportive phase. Successful completion may be sooner based on individual needs and progress. Our outpatient services include both substance use disorder specific services as well as mental health specific services.

People with HIV/AIDS

Without medical treatment and supervision, breaking free of addiction to alcohol, opiates, and benzodiazepines can be life-threatening. We admit clients experiencing withdrawal symptoms and substance use disorders into our medically monitored Detoxification Unit. Clients in emergency hospital care can also transfer to our facility to receive full medical detoxification on a 24-hour, 7-days-a-week basis. We have 44 beds for the medically supervised detoxification program for adult men and women.

Homeward Bound Crisis is a recovery-oriented treatment environment focused on wellness.

Dallas Deflects is Homeward Bound’s newest venture aimed at deflecting low level offenders to treatment instead of jail. Dallas Deflects is a partnership between the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office, Public Defender’s Office, Dallas Police Department, North Texas Behavioral Health Authority (NTBHA), Parkland Hospital, and Homeward Bound Inc. to stop the cycle of arrests, detentions, and hospitalizations for people with mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders.

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) combines the use of prescription medications with counseling and therapy to provide a “whole-patient” approach to those suffering from opioid use disorders. MAT is used for the treatment of addiction to opioids such as heroin and prescription pain relievers. It helps normalize brain chemistry, block the euphoric effects of alcohol and opioids, relieve cravings, and normalize body functions without the negative effects of the substance used. MAT is also used to prevent or reduce opioid overdose. Research shows that a combination of medication and therapy can successfully treat these disorders. For many people struggling with addiction, MAT is one of the most effective ways to obtain and help sustain recovery.
