What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Duet helps older adults and their families cope with challenges related to aging. From getting groceries and rides to the doctor, to health promotion activities and support groups, you can trust us to provide the compassionate help you need. Duet supports grandparents raising grandchildren, caregivers who care for a family member, homebound seniors, and nurses wishing to serve their faith community. We are a non-profit, interfaith organization that has been serving older adults in greater Phoenix since 1981. We're your partner in health and aging.

Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Caregiver Services

If you are a “caregiver” – someone who provides unpaid care for a loved one – you may not realize the responsibility can take a physical, mental, and emotional toll. You can take better care of your loved one if you take better care of yourself. Duet helps you do just that.

Grandparents who are raising grandchildren often face complex situations. By giving grandparents tools and information on how to handle the challenge of raising a second family, we help keep children out of foster care.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

If you are homebound because you can no longer drive due to age, disability, or disease, we can help you with basic needs such as getting groceries, rides to medical appointments and much more.

Grandparents who are raising grandchildren often face complex situations. By giving grandparents tools and information on how to handle the challenge of raising a second family, we help keep children out of foster care.

If you are caring for someone you love, whether in town or across the country, you may not realize the toll it's taking on your health. We help family caregivers cope with their situations.

If you've ever wondered how to combine your faith with your nursing skills, we have the answer. We promote health and well-being by training nurses how to create faith-based health programs.

Overall, Duet aims to create a community where each person can age with compassion, dignity and hope.

All services listed above are provided free-of-charge to the person receiving the service.

Homebound seniors are served through our large volunteer network. Volunteers (who have fingerprint cards and have completed a background check) take a senior (known as a "neighbor") to the grocery store, to medical appointments, and provide other care such as minor home repairs.

Grandparents need support when parenting their grandchildren. Whether it is negotiating the child welfare system, getting lay-legal assistance, Duet is here to help. Grandparents also attend educational and support groups. Funds are available to help grandchildren participate in extra-curricular activities and summer programs.

Caregiver services provide support groups for a variety of topics, such as dementia, LGBTQ+ support groups, addressing loss, etc. Duet also has mentors to answer questions for those new to caregiving.

Duet has the only faith community nursing program offered in Arizona. Many congregations have aging members, and pastors may not be able to provide the medical support needed. Duet is a resource for faith communities and nurses who want to create and sustain health programs that help the whole person in mind, body, and spirit.

Duet’s services are based on one person helping another. We partner with individuals, businesses, non-profits, municipalities, government organizations, and faith communities to make that happen. Our trademark is a butterfly created from two equal halves. This represents the many successful partnerships that are needed in order for Duet to provide crucial services to older adults throughout the Valley. The white space around the butterfly contains two faces looking toward each other and a more hopeful future.

We respond to pressing needs that are not being met through other organizations. Duet was the first in the Valley to offer free-of-charge volunteer services for homebound adults, as well as comprehensive services for family caregivers and grandparents raising grandchildren.

Duet also introduced the concept to the Phoenix area of congregational health programs led by faith community nurses.

Duet exists because caring partners dedicate time and funding to change lives. Hundreds of compassionate volunteers help fulfill Duet’s mission. Join us as we strive forward in expanding services and providing compassionate help to keep pace with the needs of our growing community.

In 2018 Duet provided:
5,835 rides to medical appintments to homebound adults;
38,522 hours of personalized help to homebound adults;
A total of 6,854 volunteers have been trained by Duet since its inception;
529 family caregivers attended more than 200 support groups each month;
4,294 hours of supervised activities were provided to grandchildren;
617 grandparents received vital education and support;
81 congregations have faith community nurses;

Duet has implemented a Legacy Society for our supporters to leave a bequest to Duet;
Our Vision Society is made up of generous donors who make 5-year commitments of more than $1,000 a year to Duet;
100% of Duet's board members are donors.
